Remembering Our

Colleague & Friend

Janet Murphy-Goodridge

September 22, 1958 –

March 29, 2017

Janet leaves a strong legacy - her passion

to promote breastfeeding, her lovely laugh

and zest for life has had a ripple effect

across Canada. She was an inspiration to

so many and we will all miss her greatly.

- Lea Geiger

Janet was an absolute delight to work

with on the BCC Board and I will

remember her for her passion to

support breastfeeding, her spirit for life

and her wonderful laugh.

- Michelle LeDrew

When I think of Janet, these words come to mind:

thoughtful, kind, compassionate, family-centred,

supportive, gentle, a quiet confidence...and her

infectious smile could light up a room. She was a true

and authentic leader, walking with others and inspiring

positive action that supported all mums and babes.

- Tina Swinamer

Janet was everywhere even when she wasn’t - I was at the Pre-budget

consultations, supporting a breastfeeding mother presenting on the

need to dedicate funds for breastfeeding when the Minister said, “yes, I

heard all about breastfeeding from Janet Murphy Goodridge in Goose

Bay (She was living there at that time) - he was very supportive and I

believe the next year there were funds for the Breastfeeding Coalition

in the budget!

-Lesley French, RD, Western Health NL

Janet was such a wonderful

person. She was an amazing

support to us with breastfeeding

here in PEI. She had such

positive energy and could really

'light up' a room.

- Diane Boswall

Janet’s passion for maternal and infant

health and her dedication to breastfeeding

in this province and the country was

inspiring. We will all strive in NL and in

Canada to continue to build on Janet’s

legacy.

-Heidi Boyd

Janet’s humor, laughter, warmth and passion for her work on breastfeeding and maternal and child health was amazing and contagious. So much so, that we all just loved being around and working with Janet. We are going to miss Janet terribly, but we will continue to do the important work that Janet and we all love and are so committed to - making a difference in people’s lives. Janet made such a difference.

-Laurie Twells, Memorial University

It was in 1995 when I first met Janet. We did a “tour” of Prince

Edward Island, speaking about breastfeeding in several towns. We

drove back and forth across the Island and laughed a lot and

discussed issues about breastfeeding and Papua New Guinea and

so much more. Janet was a fine person, full of humour, very

knowledgeable about many things including breastfeeding. Her

lectures on breastfeeding were wonderful.

In the last few years, whenever I received an email from a mother

in Newfoundland looking for help with breastfeeding, I always

suggest she contact Janet for support. And Janet always returned

mothers’ requests.

- Dr. Jack Newman

Janet and Kathy on the BFI trail through NL in 2015

Always positive and

cheerful, Janet truly

brought the best out in

everyone. I feel so

blessed to have known

Janet since I arrived in

Canada as a

newcomer in 1998.
