RELI 345Black Atlantic
Religions
“Black Atlantic Religions” refers to religious groups originally from the Caribbean that formed in the wake of transatlantic slavery. They are a mixture of African, European, and indigenous religious practices and were given new life by enslaved Africans. This course looks closely at religions like Santería, Vodou, Candomblé, and others to think about the relationship between race and religion.
