Junior Referees• To retain a greater number of referees that complete a referee course

by:

• Each club to have an assigned person to support club based referees.

• Assigned person to attend FGC pre season information session.

• Appoint from referees a leader of this group.

• Assigning a referee mentor to each club to support young referees and club assigned officials

• Promote FQ respect program, each referee (U/18) to wear pink arm band.

Junior Referees• Introduce Ref/LIVE (used in Vic). Referee submits their overall match

experience after every game, while also identifying clubs or teams with consistent behaviour problems.

Senior Referees• Support referees by increasing the number of referee mentors.

• Establishing a game plan, apart from changes in law, things to become more consistent with. Eg coaches behaviour/referee communication.

• Referee panels. Based on experience and performance. This will aid with appointments.

• Where possible, keep the same team of officials together for a period of 2-3 weeks. This could be repeated at a later date to help with progression.

• As we progress introduce an assistant referee panels, particularly for junior referees coming into senior football.

Senior Referees• Could use Ref/LIVE for senior football for both referees and clubs!!

Mentors• Training. Both theory and practical.

• Previously the role has been made difficult and boring by the over emphasis on reports and assessment.

• Communication with coach as to the progress of referee performance and experience will confirm referees position on relevant panels.

• Long term view will be to retain greater number of referees by the support given by mentors.

Match Day Game Plan

• Public relations!!

• Handling dissent.

• Dealing with behaviour from the bench!

• Questions? Feedback
