IntroductionThepurposeofthisdocumentistoprovideelectricchoicestogaswaterheaters,fromtinytankstowaterheatersforhighrises.Thislistincludestanklesswaterheatersonemightuseincommercialbathrooms,smallresistancestoragetanks(e.g.underatinyhousekitchensink),heatpumpwaterheaterswithintegratedtanks(commoninnewhomes),heatpumpwaterheatersusingremotetanks(helpfulforretrofits),largerwaterheaterforwhole-househydronicHVAC,andthelargestcommercialwaterheatersyoumightfindincafeterias,restaurants,hotelsandapartmentbuildings.

VoltageRequired:120VThebelowelectricresistancewaterheatersarebestusedwherehotwaterisneededinsmallamounts,suchashandwashingincommercialbathrooms,ora120sftinyhousethathasnoroomfora50-gallonheatpump.Electricresistanceuses3-5xmoreenergythanaheatpumpdoingthesameheating,butsometimestheyaretheonlywaterheatersright-sizedtothewaterdemand.Theymightalsobehelpfulwhenthereisno220Velectricityavailable—the2-10-gallontanksonthemarketuse120V,whileanythinglargeruses240Vformoreheatingcapability.

temperature,between120Fand180F,andaminimumoperatingtemperaturebetween5Fand45Fbeforeitswitchesofftheheatpumpandusesresistance.Aresistanceelementat2-4xtheenergyofaheatpump.
