Offshore Substations

Electricity produced by the turbines is

transmitted by subsea array cables to the offshore substations

Substations house the high and medium

voltage electrical components for transformation of the 33kV voltages produced by the wind turbines to 150kV export voltage

Two export cables transmit the electricity from

the substations to the shore   Substations also house control rooms,

emergency accommodation and workshops

Marine Export Cables

Export Cables • The marine export cables will connect the offshore substations the landfall point. • Three core 150kV cables with fibre optics.

Export Cable Installation • Cables will be laid and ploughed to burial depth approx 1.5-2m below the sea bed.

17

Array Cables

Array Cables • Connect the wind turbines to each other and to the offshore substations. • 150mm2 (33kV) and 500mm2 3 core submarine cable. Array Cable Installation •  Cables are loose laid on seabed and pulled into the transition piece through external j-tubes or internally thorough holes in the monopiles • The cables are buried by jetting or ploughing techniques. • All cables will be buried at a target depth of 1.5m under the sea bed.

Offshore construction supply chain opportunities   Major offshore construction activities over a two year period to install and

commission the wind turbines, foundations, subsea cables and offshore substations

As well as the major installation vessels, many smaller vessels will be required, e.g. guard boats, etc

Ancillary and support services for installation vessels. e.g bunkering, etc

Specialist services for offshore works, e.g. diving services, etc

Experience on other projects shows local suppliers will be required to support construction base activities, e.g plant hire, etc

Further details of the offshore contracts and potential opportunities in the afternoon ‘Offshore Balance of Plant’ focus group
