Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.
God bless you all Friends, ladies and gentlemen. How
happy we are when we can go back to greeting and
interacting with the glorious month of Ramadan. The
moment in which God pours mercy and forgiveness
for all His servants.
“In the past, the Prophet always meant it (worship)
in the month of Ramadan beyond his sincerity in
another month. And in the last ten days of Ramadan,
it also exceeds the days apart “(HR. Muslim). How a
Prophet SAW that has been guaranteed to get heaven
also privileged his worship practice in this month
of Ramadan. So, it has become imperative for us to
imitate it with determination and the best endeavor
we can.
Many people have asked, what is the meaning of
Ramadan Happy Energy? Thus, what is its relation
with the privilege of Ramadan?
Ramadan Happy Energy is a theme that we want to
share with the entire people of Indonesia at this time
of Ramadan 1438 Hijri. We are inspired by how the
sincerity of the muzakki and the community to share
in this month have increased multiply. Not only on
the Zakat funds, but also on social funds to help those
in need through Senyum Ramadan progam such as
Ramadan Smile. Sincerity of sharing has become a
great energy in providing happiness for others.
Therefore, Senyum Ramadhan program will Insya
Allah bring back the smiles and happiness of those
in need through IfIfthar package, Eid Gift for Orphan,
Family Eid Gift, and Syiar Quran. We have targeted
160,624 packages of Senyum Ramadan programs to
be distributed in the development areas of Rumah
Zakat from Aceh to Jayapura.
We thank you for your trust, support, and synergy in
Ramadan this time. Only God who can repay all good
with perfect scales. May every deed be one of the
best records of our charity when we meet Him in the
Hereafter. Aamiin.
Warm greetings from us, Ramadan Happy Energy...
Wassalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.

Keep smiling and cheerful. It is always seen on the
face of this 9 years-old girl. Although her parents had
divorced and she is no longer live with them, but Putri
and her brother Rafli, remain cheerful and excited in
living their daily life.
Since childhood, Putri has lived with her
grandmother and grandfather. She is happier
with them. Because, her grandmother and
grandfather always teach Putri and Rafli many
pleasant advice.
“My Grandma said, we should not complaining
when we get a problem. Because if you keep
complaining then it will only make it felt
more severe. So, it would be better
if we can be grateful and live it with
sincerity, “said the girl who is now
sitting in the of Elementary School.
Everyday, her grandmother,
Ruminah works making broom
stick. A total of 400 brooms
of sticks generate
Rp500 thousand with
a working time of 5
months. Meanwhile,
his grandfather works

in a machete. Since the income of his grandmother
and grandparents are not quite much, Putri and her
brothercannot be like any other children who can get
new clothes each year during Lebaran.
“The coming lebaran, I want new clothes
and bicycle. But, usually during the
month of Ramadan, grandpa does not
work because he unable to handle
the fatigue while working during the
fasting,”said Putri.
Although there are no Lebaran clothes
for recent years, but the girl who live
on the coast of Pangandaran Beach
is still excited in learning the
fasting.”Because my grandma
said, if we are fasting, we will
get a reward from God,”she
said with her innocent face.

“The first program held in Tamanan Village is
Posyandu. Started from there, we then noticed there
were some residents who had malnourished records.
One factor is the lack of eating vegetables and fruits,
“said Alfian, the Empowered Village Facilitator of
Tamanan.
Tamanan is one of 19 Empowered Villages of Rumah
Zakat in Yogyakarta that focus on health program.
Since 2012, this region has implemented various
health empowerment programs, but the Nutrition
Garden program has been just rolled out in this region
on the last February.
According to Alfian, the first goal of the
implementation of the Nutrition Garden program is
to improve the health of residents by eating organic
vegetables and fruits. Secondly, empowering residents,
especially housewives to have other activities that can
be beneficial for themselves and their families.
“As a prefix, the participants of this program are the
posyandu cadres that we have developed. At least
they are familiar with the empowerment program
conducted by Rumah Zakat. There are 1000 plants
that we distribute when launching the program, “said
Alfian.

Utilization of vacant land
At the beginning of the land program formation, the
land that is used is the yard of the group member’s
house. By using polybags they plant a variety of plants,
such as cayenne, eggplant, mustard, tomato, and
others.
After two months, the Nutrition Program began to be
ogled by other residents who wanted to join. “People
used to be reluctant to grow vegetables in the yard of
their houses because of the limited land. After seeing
the results, they finally want to follow, “said Nurul,
Chief of Dukuh Tamanan who is very supportive of
this program.
Dealing with the limitations of the land, Nurul took
the initiative to use the vacant land in his area to be
used as a Nutrient Garden. Now the land that was
originally neglected began to be planted vegetables
and treated by residents. Nurul also hoped that
with the optimization of the land use, people of
People Development
To improve the Nutrient Garden members’
perspective, once a month there is development
program held by the Empowered Village Facilitator.
The material given usually around the maintenance of
plants as well as keeping the soil condition to remain
fertile.
According to Alfian, this activity is carried out so
that the members of Nutrient Garden are getting
motivated to improve their garden maintenance.
“Community development programs are usually
conducted after posyandu activities because the
majority of participants are posyandu members as
well. For the future we create a special activity that is
Nutrition Academy, “said Alfian.
Nutrient Garden Regeneration
The Nutrition Academy is currently being held in
Pleret Village, Karet, one of the empowered villages
of Rumah Zakat in Yogyakarta. The Nutrient Garden
Program in Pleret became a pilot project for other
Nutrient Gardens, including Tamanan. The MDG’s
award-winning area also becomes the location of
the Nutrition Garden visit several times, even by the
Indonesia Minister of Health, Prof. DR. Dr. Nila Farid
Moeloek, Sp.M.
Picking chili
Picking eggplant in Nutrient Garden
Dusun Tamanan will be able to reduce monthly
spending expenditure. In addition, the program that
is being pioneered can also develop a healthy and
independent community.
“I am proud and happy with Rumah Zakat’s Nutrition
Garden Program in Bantul. I’ve been there. What
makes me proud is that all elements of society
are involved starting from residents, headman,
Babinsa and health workers so that the nutritional
independence is achieved, “said Prof. DR. Dr. Nila Farid
Moeloek, Minister of Health RI.
But the homework in Pleret Village, Karet, Bantul is
the regeneration of its members. “This is a challenge
for us to develop the Nutrition Garden Program in
other areas that besides it really needs it, it also has the
potential of good regeneration of cadres. Currently
the Nutrition Garden Regeneration is our focus in the
Tamanan area, “said Alfian.
Alfian added that the application of the Nutrition
Garden for each Empowered Village is adapted to the
potential of its residents. And in the future, there will
be a Toga village (Family Medicinal Plants) developed
in this Tamanan area specifically for residents whose
their homes on the side of the road.

Bottles and plastic wrappers, as well as tin cans piled
in and around the small building behind Misem’s
house, one of the residents who is also member of
the Mawar Asri Trash Charity Group. The garbage
comes from the residents who voluntarily deliver their
household waste to the Trash Charity Post.
Garbage Alms Mawar Asri that has been initiated by
Rumah Zakat since 2013 in Dusun Kauman, Bantul,
Yogyakarta has a positive impact for the residents. It is
not only has a good impact on the environment that
is getting cleaner, but also instilling religious values in
the people there.
“People are now beginning to realize the importance
of charity, even with small things like garbage. Thus,
beside they care about environmental hygiene,
residents also began collecting garbage in Garbage
Although there is no profit they can take for personal
pockets, but members of the Garbage Alms Group of
Mawar Asri keep excited in carrying out their duties.
Together Face the Obstacle
Operating and Mawar Asri Trash Charity Group is not
obstacles-less. The journey that has been carried
out for almost four years is certainly provide a lot of
experience for all members of the group.
According to Alfian, Trash Charity Group was not
only built in Kauman Village, but also in several other
villages in Bantul. However, it turns out that the Mawar
Asri Trash Charity Group in this Kauman village that
can survive and developed.
Eni, the chairman hopes that there will be many
parties will work together and cooperate in
developing Trash Charity Group.
“Currently there are 15 members of our group and I
hope that number can continue to grow. Hopefully,
the stakeholders in Kauman Village area can also work
together in developing the environment. Because this
is our effort to keep the environment free from waste,
“said Eni.
Embed the Importance of Alms
Through Waste
Members of Garbage Alms Group Mawar Asri
Sorting out the garbage
Bringing the sorted waste
Mawar Asri Trash Charity with the intention to cariied
out charity,” said Alfian, Public Health of Rumah Zakat
in Kauman Village.
In addition, according to Alfian, now people have
started to realize and willing to deliver the waste
voluntarily. “Previously, people’s awareness to collect
the garbage is still less. Residents must be visited one
by one in order to alms their garbage,” he said.
Fortunately, in the first years of the establishment of
Trash Charity there was Mr. Midi, one of the residents
who were willing to go around the village bringing
carts and collecting plastic waste from people’s
houses. However, now the old Mr. Midi had quit from
his ‘job’ collecting garbage from the residents houses.
Transform into Joint Venture
Once collected, the garbage is then sold to the
collectors. In one sale, the results obtained are vary.
If the waste is a lot, it can reach Rp500.000 in one
sale and the waste is sold every two weeks. If it is a bit,
new trash can be sold after three weeks.
The proceeds are then re-utilized to increase income.
It is not for personal income, but to increase the cash
of PKK and Mawar Asri Trash Charity group. After
the capital is collected, they will use the money to
buy catering equipment that will be leased to local
residents.
“The results of our waste sales will be used to buy
catering tools. Later, it can be rented to residents who
will hold a celebration. So, it won’t hard to find the
tools, “said Eni, Chairman of the Garbage Alms Mawar
Asri Trash Charity Group.
For a rental price of such each tools, administrators
Garbage Alms Group Mawar Asri fix the price at
Rp10,000 per day.
“For now, we collect all the profits from the garbage
sales and use it for capital purchase of new tools.
Because the tools we have are still few to rent. We
input the profits of the rental to cash. Later, it can be
used for the needs of the Mawar Asri Trash Charity
Group or if there is PKK events,” said Eni.

The Elderly Friendly Village program has also been
a pilot project and presented by Dwi Endah, Senior
Manager of Cita Sehat Foundation at Crown Harbor
Hotel, Busan, Korea in Harmonization Of Developing
Elderly Care Program. The event was attended by
professors, academics, health insurance, hospital
representatives, donors, owners and health care
companies from Japan, Korea, and some countries
that represented the Toyota Foundation, Asia Pacific
and Asia Consorcium Aging Pacific.
“This event aims to be a means of sharing knowledge
between countries as well as increasing knowledge
and skills in managing Elderly programs in various
countries. Alhamdulillah Rumah Zakat can have an
opportunity to represent Indonesia, “concluded Dwi
Endah.
In one meeting, the elderly are charged Rp3,000.
The money is partly saved and some are used for
social funds, such as visiting the sick or takziah to the
deceased. The savings money they have can be taken
whenever it is needed. The money is also used as a
loan for capital venture. The loan refunds can be made
anytime either in installments or paid directly.
“This fee is not mandatory. If they have the money,
then we accept it, if there is no money, it’s okay.
Because the application of this dues was also
purposed for them as well.
First, it is just for a precaution if one day there is an
important and sudden needs, it is also purposed so
that the members can have savings though it’s only a
little,” said Agustin, Vice Chairman of Elderly Posyandu
in Karet Village.
Got Many Support and Presented in Korea
At the end of 2012, Rumah Zakat along with village
officials, the puskesmas, and the people of Karet
Village inaugurated Elderly Friendly Village. The
inauguration of the Elderly Friendly Village also
received support from various parties such as
village government officials to cross-sector
support such as Koramil and local police
who also attended the inauguration five
years ago.
This program is supported
through cooperation
between Rumah Zakat,
and stakeholders such
as hamlet, sub-district,
puskesmas (district health
center) and DIY Elderly
Regional Commission,
and academic Center For
Aging Study of Indonesia
University.
One by one, the residents who were no longer young
weree coming to the pavilion in the middle of the
village. Some are cycling, on foot, driven by motor,
and various other ways. Smiles without teeth, often
seen from their faces. While the posyandu cadres are
ready to welcome the participants with a very friendly
face.
A loud voice with the tones that sometimes discordant
became one of the elderly encouragement to remain
cheerful despite the skin that is no longer taut. Every
month, the elderly in the Karet Village, Pleret, Bantul,
Yogyakarta routinely follow the activities organized
by Rumah Zakat. Karet Village is one of the Elderly
Friendly Villages that is developed in Yogyakarta. In the
village, there are as many as 120 Elders who become
active members and diligently attend the various
activities held by Rumah Zakat.
Although many of them have been old, but they keep
the spirit in yelling the yell taught by the posyandu
cadres in the area. It is not only that, the elderly were
eager to follow the gymnastics. “so that the body
healthy and not sore,” said Jamalah one elderly in
Karet Village.
The existence of Elderly Friendly Villages in Karet
region gives a considerable impact on the residents.
One of them with Care Giver program which is
also the focus of the development in there. It is like
Sumardi who has struggled for 10 years taking care of
his wife who suffered from stroke.
“During care giver training, I was taught how
to properly take care a person. So I get a lot of
knowledge from debriefing that often provided
by Rumah Zakat. Alhamdulillah, my wife who was
previously unable to move at all, now she can sit and
smile, “said Sumardi.
Business Capital Assistance and Development
In addition to physical fitness activities, in Karet Village
there is also held a form of guidance in the form of
spiritual sprinkling and Quran learning which they call
with Amalan (deeds).
“In addition to physical health, another important thing
is to instill god-lines and Islamic values for the elderly.
So, each month there is Quran learning, “said Afrezah,
Karet Empowered Village Facilitator.

Being Helpful and Independent PersonThe noblest human being is those who can be useful, or at least not to burden others. That is reflected from the
stories encountered in the empowered village of Bantul, Yogyakarta. Coaching that has been conducted since
four or five years ago, has impacted and changed the habits of the less good to be good. Here is the story found
from the people of Rumah Zakat Empowered Village in Yogyakarta.
Afreza
Grandma Pidah
Keep Spirit in the old age
By the age of 75 years, Grandma Pidah still has the
spirit to pedal a bicycle and go around the village to
work. Every morning, Grandma Pidah sells marrow
porridge that she made at home. She had done it
since she was young with her husband. Now, when
her husband has died, Grandma Pidah is still faithful to
her work.
Grandma Pidah who claimed to have six
grandchildren, still have a passion in picking up
sustenance. However, due to her health that has
already declining, now Grandma Pidah can not sell
porridge every day.
“Now I can only sell porridge in three or four days a
week. If I am tired then I can just stay rest. If I am sick
or stiff then I just come to the doctor or to Rumah
Zakat, after that I can be healthy again,” said Grandma
Pidah with laughter.
In one sale, Grandma Pidah can benefit from
Rp30.000 to Rp80.000. Although not every day,
but the money collected from selling the porridge is
enough for the provision of her daily life.
“Although I am old now, but I want to be independent.
I do not want to rely on my children. So, though it’s
only a little but it’s the result of my own hard work,
“said Grandma Pidah.
Want to Be a Helpful Person
“I just want to be useful for many people,” said
Afreza when he is asked about his goals. Afreza or
commonly called as Eza is one of the Empowered
Village Facilitators for Yogyakarta who focus on public
health especially elderly. According to the youngest of
five brothers, being a facilitator is the way that he can
be useful for others.
In addition to her parent permission, that is another
reason that brought Eza wandering to Yogyakarta
and accompanying the elderly in Pleret Village, Karet,
Bantul. For a woman who was born in Palembang, her
profession is now very much in line with her passion
and knowledge.
But that does not mean there is no challenge in living
it. Cultural and language differences became the
greatest challenge experienced by Ezaduring her time
as a facilitator. According to her, mastering everyday
Javanese is not enough, so the facilitator in the
Elderly Friendly Village must also mastering a very fine
Javanese language.
“Since these elderly need friends to communicate, I,
as a facilitator must be able to be one of the people
they communicate with. So if the elderly want to talk, I
can not just say njih .. njih .. smiling and nodding, “said
Afreza smiling.
This 25-year-old woman is indeed a good learner.
For a year as a facilitator all the challenges related to
language or anything else can be maintained well.
Even today Eza with Dwi Endah, Senior Manager of
Eni Lestari
Consistently Invites Goodness
“Inviting people to do good is hard!” Eni Lestari said,
when she is asked about her impression of being a
chairman.
Since January 2014, Eni Lestari has been appointed
as the Head of Chairman of Trash Charity Group
of Mawar Asri. She admitted that there are many
challenges that she face, especially in encouraging
people to participate in maintaining cleanliness of the
environment.
“The program formed by Rumah Zakat through
Garbage Alms is very good for the cleanliness of the
environment. But most people are still less concerned,
“ she added.
To resuscitate the people, Eni never get bored to invite
people around her house to collect garbage and
donate it at Mawar asri trash charity.
“First I always instill to all members of the group of
Garbage Alms to never get bored to inviting people
to donate through the garbage. In addition to inviting,
I also try to report what activities we have done.
Thus citizens and stakeholders can also be moved to
participate actively and equally maintain the health
and environmental cleanliness in this region, “said the
mother of two children.
Cita Sehat Foundation, is compiling a book on
Elderly. One of the key points in the book is how
to understand and assist the Elderly. “This book
is dedicated to all Elderly and
future Elderly in Indonesia,”
Eza said.
