“What is a period?”

A period is a punctuation mark that is used at the end of statements, orcommands, to show that a completethought has ended. Statements arealso referred to as declarativesentences. Commands are referredto as imperative sentences. Periodsare also used after abbreviations.

QUESTION MARKS

“When do you use question marks?”

A question mark is used at the end of sentences that ask something. If you need a response, you are asking a question,which is also referred to as an interrogativesentence.

EXCLAMATION MARKS

“When do you use exclamation marks?”

An exclamation mark is used at the endof a sentence when you are expressingstrong feelings about something. Thesesentences are referred to as exclamations.

Examples of Exclamations

What beautiful colors the sand dunes are!

How thick the dust is!

What a great game!

All three of the sentences above showstrong feelings.
