The Office of the Vice President and Vice Provost for Equity and Diversity
The Office for Equity and Diversity is committed to providing system-wide leadership in addressing inequities, and by using diversity as a tool, helping to transform the University to reflect the excellence it seeks.
Our Goal
Become a national model for achieving institutional excellence by infusing the core values of equity and diversity into teaching, learning, research, and service.
Our Vision
Enrich human experience through understanding, respecting and capitalizing on the strengths of diverse experiences and perspectives.
Our Mission
• Create a University committed, not only to access for diverse students, faculty, and staff, but also to active engagement that supports their success;
• Comprehensively prepare students to live and work in a diverse world; and
• Develop an interdisciplinary community of scholars to enhance exchange of ideas and develop new knowledge to address local and world issues.
Our Guiding Principles
• Diversity is everyone’s responsibility.
• Diversity does not mean assimilation; rather, it means finding common ground while also respecting difference.
• Diversity is not an issue to confront every few years, but a tool for achieving excellence.
• Diversity requires new models and structures as well as linking theory with practice.
