Ailan Awareness

http://ailanawareness.org/ EDUCATION/ENVIRONMENT

Since 1993, Ailan Awareness (AA) has engineered a unique approach to sustainable marine conservation. By empowering coastal communities to manage the marine resources they depend upon, AA aims to protect both the people and reefs of New Ireland for future generations. Working directly with the grassroots population, AA addresses a major gap in government regulation and the efforts of international NGOs: it gives the people most directly affected by marine conservation the initiative and tools required to design and carry it out. At the same time, AA collaborates with local and national government agencies, conservation NGOs, and international institutions in order to maximize the potential of its efforts and to better protect New Ireland’s reefs and people.

IFC supports small and medium enterprises and larger firms in Papua New Guinea through innovative investments and advisory services that help create jobs, expand services, and improve livelihoods. It also works with government to create an investor-friendly environment to allow businesses to formalize easily and flourish. With over a third of the population in Papua New Guinea living in poverty, IFC has scaled up its effort to create opportunity by increasing our commitments from $1.2 million in 2006 to more than $200 million in 2012. In 2013, IFC's Pacific Gender Program established the PNG Business Coalition for Women.
