PROJECTS AND INFRASTRACTURES UNDER MARCOS 1965 to 1986

Ferdinand Edralin Marcos was the tenth (10th) President of the Republic of the Philippines and the only president to stay in office for more than twenty years (1965 to 1986). He served as president from 1965 to 1969 during his first term and was re-elected in 1969. Three years later, he declared Martial Law. He stayed in office since then until 1981 – the same year he lifted Martial Law. He was again re-elected for a term of six years but only served from 1981 to 1986 due to a snap presidential election.

• Bataan Nuclear Power Plant is a nuclear power plant, completed but never fueled, on Bataan Peninsula

• The Philippine nuclear program started in 1958 with the creation of the Philippine Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) under Republic Act 2067.

• Construction on the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant began in 1976.

• By 1984, when the BNPP was nearly complete, its cost had reached $US2.3 billion

• Equipped with a Westinghouse light water reactor, it was designed to produce 621 megawatts of electricity

• Imelda Remedios Visitacion Romualdez-Marcos (born Imelda Remedios Visitacion Trinidad Romualdez on July 2, 1929) is the widow of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos, and is herself an influential political figure in the Philippines. She is known as the "Steel Butterfly" due to her role as a controversial figure in her home country and around the world.

Philippine Heart Center

• Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City was established through Presidential Decree No. 673 issued by president Ferdinand E. Marcos in 1975

• inaugurated on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1975 and graced by renowned cardiovascular experts such as Dr. Christiaan Barnard, Dr. Denton Cooley, Dr. Donald Effler, and Dr. Charles Bailey.

Philippine Lung Center

• The Lung Center of the Philippines was established on January 16, 1981 by President Ferdinand Marcos under Presidential Decree No. 1823.

• The purpose of its creation was to provide health care that specifically targets lung and pulmonary disease. It is located in Quezon Avenue, Quezon City.

Cultural Center of the Philippines• established to preserve,

develop and promote arts and culture in the Philippines.
