PrimaryPlus is happy to announce the availability of applications for its an-nual Carolyn Caseman Ev-ans PrimaryPlus Scholar-ship program. The program started over 10 years ago, providing over $12,000 in funds thus far to graduat-ing seniors. In 2010, the scholarship was named in memory of one of Prima-ryPlus’ great nurses, Mrs.

Carolyn Caseman Evans, who strongly believed in the community she served, loved her patients and was passionate about quality healthcare.

The PrimaryPlus Schol-arship can provide a $500 non-renewable scholar-ship to a class of 2012 graduate in Lewis, Flem-ing, Mason and Bracken counties. The scholarship

applications are available at the guidance counselors’ office at most high schools, as well as, online at www.primaryplus.net (under Our Services, then click Community Programs).

Applicants will be re-quired to submit a brief biography, transcripts of their high school grades/test scores, financial need information and provide

letters of recommendation. Seniors applying must also submit a 500 to 1,000 word essay outlining their pro-fessional goals in the med-ical field, the future con-tributions they would like to make in the community and how this scholarship would help them attain those goals. The deadline for application submis-sion is May 7, 2012. The

recipient(s) of the 2011 Pri-maryPlus Scholarship will be announced at the Senior Awards Ceremony at each school. Last year’s win-ners were Peggy Workman of Lewis County, Kaitlyn Parker of Bracken County, Jessica Fritz of Mason County and Emily Jamison of Fleming County.

“The PrimaryPlus scholarship program is one

of many ways we believe in investing back into our communities...the class of 2012 is our future! It is important to help these young students pursue their dreams, in hopes that they will return home to begin their careers-we believe in their knowledge and their talents,” states Jerry Ugrin, CEO of Prima-ryPlus.

The April meeting of NARFE was held Fri-day, April 13, at noon at deSha’s Restaurant in Maysville with Presi-dent Emmalou George, presiding. There were 10 members present plus nine guests who were Rev. Norman Wasson, guest speaker, Marlene Bunten, District IV vice president, Jan Celella, state secre-tary, Jean Shepherd, Mrs. Hay, Janice Cooke, Jan Sherwood, Norma Darnall and Roy Rice.

After a delicious lunch, Rev. Wasson gave us a very entertaining speech, ending on a serious note and everyone seemed to enjoy it very much.

Marlene Bunten and Lynda Polley gave us syn-opsis of the state meet-ing which was held April 12-14 at Hopkinsville. There were two or three

new policies implemented which will make for a bet-ter state meeting. The Golden Burley Chapter won the per capita award for Alzheimer’s sup-port. We are proud of this award.

Mary Ann Cooke was made Hospitality Chair-man since she does so much to make our meet-ings hospitable.

It was decided that we would meet at the follow-ing places for our summer meetings: June, Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park; July, The Tea Room in Flemingsburg; and Au-gust, Moyer Winery.

There will be a speaker for the month of May.

NARFE hears Rev. Wasson

Larry and Sandy Hughes, lifelong resi-dents of Mount Olivet, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an Eastern Carib-bean cruise. They were married in Orangeburg on April 1, 1962 by the Rev. Randall Hill.

Their family includes a daughter, Laura and son-in-law, Jeff Houchens of May’s Lick; sons, Lorne and daughter-in-law, Jenny Hughes of Carlisle; and the late Leslie Al-len Hughes, who died in 1988; and four grand-daughters, Taylor and Peyton Houchens of May’s Lick; and Laurel and Jillian Hughes of

Carlisle.Sandy is the daugh-

ter of Alpha Ballingal of Melbourne, Fla., and the late Robert Ballingal and Larry is the son of the late William B. and Louise Hughes.

Larry is the Super-intendant for the State Transportation Cabinet in Robertson County, and Sandy, who taught English at Mason County High School for 31 years, is retired.

PROVIDEDFOR A GOOD CAUSE | Mrs. Maurita Owens and her preschool students at St. Michael School in Ripley were named Gold Champions in the school youth program for collecting money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The students bought in their pennies for three consecutive weeks, collecting around $186.00. As a reward the children will have an ice cream sundae party in their classroom.

The wedding took place at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fayetteville, Ohio and was officiated by Rev. Dohrman Byers. Sta-cy is the daughter of Michael and Jackie Cluxton of Manchester, Ohio, and Jerod is the son of John and Diane Michael of Sardinia, Ohio. The lovely bride was given in marriage by Michael Cluxton, father of the bride.
