Stavanger Offshore Technical College is a public college located in Stavanger, Norway.

The college has 150 years of tradition as a maritime institution.

As the maritime industry in Norway declined in the 1970s  the oil and gas industry arrived, placing a new area of focus at the college. 

Today, Petroleum Technology has a dominant position at the college, makingSOTS one of the most interesting institutions of its kind.

SOTS currently has about 600 students at the level of Vocational

School and Technical College.

New Methods and Distance Learning

SOTS uses Internet and Learning Management Systems in mosttraining and education.

We now run several education programs with students situatedin different locations worldwide.

We use modern tools like:

New Methods and Distance Learning:An example

We run an education program for the rig company Seadrill.All learning activities and exam are on the Internet.

The program makes it possible to combine studies with work as well as to participate worldwide. 

Close to 100 Seadrill employees with 15 different nationalitieshave enrolled in the program.

SOTS Course Center is a commercial division of the college. 

Annually, the  Center  has around 2000 participants in

various kind of courses and education.

It is approved by: the Norwegian Maritime Directorate and

the Norwegian Oil Industry Association.

It has DNV and Norwegian Certification.

12 participants from the Faroe Islands received training in Well Technology.

The project aimed to make them employable in Norway and theFaroe Islands.

Aims:• To ensure correct competence for respective positions.• To administer the system and assist in quality management.

Cooperation with PTIL, KLIF, PETRAD and NPD.
