NTL UiT – characteristics
• NTL is politically independent and organize employees in scientific, technical and administrative positions. NTL is an active association and has approximately 660 working members at UiT The Arctic University of Norway
• At UiT: Members: 45% - administrative positions , 31% - technical positions, 24% - academic positions. Students, cleaners, professors, custodians, canteen personel, assistant professors, student advisers, librarians…
• NTL is focusing especially on education and research. NTL stock reports on research conditions and employee rights, organizes conferences, participates in debates both locally and nationally to protect the interests of the employees.

NTL UiT – characteristics
• NTL is a socially committed union. We take a position on the development of society locally, nationally and internationally. For NTL UiT it is therefore appropriate to adopt statements at the annual meeting on both tariff policy, research policy as well as amnesty for long remaining asylum children.

Temporality in the HE sector
• Annual meetings between managers and union representatives to discuss the use of temporary appointments.
• The number has been reduced, many temporary employees have in recent years received permanent positions.
• UiT has gone from being the worst to being the best among universities in terms of temporality
• Still far too many work in insecure and short-term contracts
• NTL UiT has repeatedly advocated that employees working in research projects that do not have a clear end date, shall be appointed permanently. This applies to both academic positions and staff in support functions.
