I love trade shows. They’re the single most powerful tool for emerging individuals, companies, and markets to achieve their goals. Business is about relationships, and relationships are forged via in-person interactions, particularly those with a critical mass of like-minded individuals, enterprises and content.
And I love competition. The founders of Marijuana Business Daily stand by the premise that if your business doesn’t have a competitor, then you likely don’t have a customer base either. As of my last count, there will be 31 cannabis-related B2B trade shows held in 2015: proof indeed that there is a driving industry need for quality in-person meetings of minds.
However, when events over-promise in their marketing or execute poorly, they are very damaging for the industry as a whole. It creates a negative industry perception with media and newcomers, it bleeds critical cash with no return on investment for exhibiting companies and attendees, and it causes a general devaluation of face-to-face events.
The ongoing success of the Marijuana Business Conference & Expo depends on delivering a successful return on investment to the exhibitors and attendees. Here’s why it’s the one true national industry event:
• It’s the longest running national event, launched in 2012 with significant growth in attendance each year (see growth stats on the next page).
• The conference program is controlled entirely by the industry-leading editorial team behind Marijuana Business Daily, Marijuana Business Magazine and the Marijuana Business Factbook – a team with deep insights and long experience to highly curate sessions, invite the best speakers, and enforce a strict no-commercialization policy.
• The audience is comprised of the true professionals of the cannabis industry, proven by their daily readership and investment in quality research data reports. Our audience reach does not engage patients and consumers.
• We deliver high-level keynotes from business thought-leaders such as Ben Cohen, Steven Levitt, and Ralph Nader – not talk show hosts and singers.
• We constantly innovate, introducing new programming such as our Marijuana Business Crash Course and the Pitch Slam. This year, check out Industry Celebration & Benefit Event: a unique-to-the-industry engagement of business and advocacy. See details on page 15.
But you don’t have to take my word for it – for any of this. Ask any of the 200+ exhibitors who will pack the expo floor (see the full list on page 13 of this pre-show guide.) Talk to any of last year’s 3,214 delegates. The pages of this pre-show guide are filled with hard facts, details and specifics – not vague promises – on why you need to be there.
The Marijuana Business Conference & Expo doesn’t sell hype. We deliver results.
See you in Las Vegas!

2016: What’s at Stake & Next States to LegalizeWith 2016 expected to be a watershed year for legal cannabis, it’s important to have a clear understanding of the impact of upcoming legislation and pro-industry candidates. Join panelists from leading advocacy organizations as they discuss California, Ohio, Florida, Nevada and many other states with potential ballot initiatives for legalization.
Competitive Intelligence & Insights from Comparable IndustriesThe natural products, tobacco and alcohol industries share many traits in common with the cannabis marketplace. Experts from each of these will discuss what it took for these industries to be successful and offer insights into best practices that can carry over into cannabis. They will also discuss how companies in these industries are preparing to enter the cannabis space so that you can prepare for that coming wave of competition.
From the Brink to the Breakthrough: Industry Pioneers Share Lessons from the TrenchesMost companies face major obstacles during their lifecycle, some of which bring the business to the edge of failure. This trend has proven especially true for cannabusiness owners. In this TED Talk-style presentation, you’ll hear from industry pioneers Steve DeAngelo, Greta Carter and Tripp Keber to learn what it took to survive their defining moments and how they persevered through the toughest times – and how you can, too.
Hot Topic: Organic Cannabis & Pesticide UseMore patients and consumers are requesting or even demanding cannabis that is grown without the use of pesticides, yet growing marijuana using organic methods can be costly and time confusing. Growers are also confused about what types of pesticides growers can and should use. This session will explore these issues and provide insight into how growers can best cultivate organic marijuana.
What Patients & Consumers Want: Strain Trends, Product Mix & CBD vs. THCThis session dives into the latest data on what your customers are asking for every time they enter a shop. What strains are they purchasing? Which are the hot new “must try” products in the rec space? What’s the real demand for CBD products? You will leave with a better understanding of how to tailor your own business to best suit the patients and consumers which drive the industry.
Once the Dust Settles: Retail Growth Strategies in a Maturing MarketNo longer is the legal cannabis industry made up entirely of startups and bootstrappers. Hard-won experience has begun to separate the successful dispensaries and rec shops from the wannabes as many markets begin to mature. Hear from experienced CEOs and owners about how they keep their companies moving forward once the initial boom subsides, and what you can do to grow your retail business as the industry matures and the competition increases.

Big Changes for a $1B Market: Analyzing California’s New MMJ Rules
Minimizing the 280E Bite, Dealing with the IRS & Preparing for an AuditHear from experts in tax law about how to navigate the tricky waters of 280E and deal with the possibility of an audit. With all of the uncertainty around the tax complications and legalities of a cannabis business, you cannot afford to miss this session.
Marijuana Research & Science: Latest Developments, Data & Industry Impact As more and more research studies are published regarding cannabis, mainstream acceptance of the industry is growing. Use this session to learn about the current state of marijuana research, the results of the latest studies and the impact this has on the legal cannabis industry.
The Fight for Shelf Space: Finding & Retaining Retail ClientsHow do wholesale growers, infused products companies and other businesses that develop products sold in retail stores develop a strong relationship with dispensaries and rec shops? How do you keep that relationship going year after year? Join the panel as experts discuss what you can do to get your product in stores and prominently displayed on their shelves.
Investing in Cannabis: Legal Updates & Hottest OpportunitiesIt wasn’t long ago that cannabusiness entrepreneurs were on their own for funding. Now, there’s at least as many dollars as there are worthwhile opportunities to invest in. Stay ahead of the competition, learn about the latest investing developments and find out what the current legal environment looks like for cannabis investors.
Tribal Marijuana: Emerging Opportunities & the Impacts on Established BusinessesTribal groups are set to jump into the legal marijuana industry, and established businesses need to understand now what impact this may have on their future, and the competitive advantages (and disadvantages) tribes will have going forward. Join us for a discussion on what that means for you and where you may find opportunities to participate as Native American tribes get involved.
Infused Products: Keys to Consistency and Quality ControlAcross different harvests and different production batches, how do you churn out a consistent end product that the consumer can rely on – and trust? Join this session to better understand the interaction of cultivation, extraction and formulation in the quality and potency of your product, and learn how best to maintain a high level of consistency and quality with your infused products.
JUST ADDED!
Industry experts including Sean Donahoe from Operative Campaigns, Sean Luse from Berkley Patients Group and Hezekiah Allen from the Emerald Grower’s Association will discuss how the new rules affect existing dispensaries, infused products companies, cultivators and ancillary companies. They’ll also outline what businesses will need to do going forward in order to stay competitive, continue operating and stay profitable.
Everything’s about to change in California. Are you ready? The nation’s largest cannabis market is facing a watershed moment, with new rules for statewide business regulations set to pass at any time. This moderated panel discussion takes a look at what this means for the cannabis industry in California and its national impact, along with the new opportunities and challenges businesses will face.

“Best event I have ever attended within the industry.”Tripp Keber, Managing Director, Dixie Elixirs
“Once again the Marijuana Business Daily produces a superior product. This was the most professional, informative and interactive event that I have attended. There were great networking opportunities and excellent speaker panels.”
Kris Morwood, Director, Impact Maven Mentors
“What an amazing event. It was incredible to be able to listen to well-respected members of the cannabis industry speak about their experiences, and pass on valuable information and life lessons. The Expo Hall was filled with more than I could have imagined, and I was able to secure several new vendors for our dispensary. And to top it all off, the opportunity to network, and share stories with other peers in the industry was absolutely priceless. Thank you so much for hosting such a wonderful experience. Can’t wait to attend again next year!”
Liesl Finkler, Dispensary Director, The Humboldt California Association
“I was truly impressed by the level of professionalism and excellence of both the show organizers and attendees. I’ve been in the specialty consumer products business for most of my career and have attended trade shows in a half dozen different industries. While the cannabis industry is still young and populated exclusively by small businesses, you’d never know it. These guys are serious entrepreneurs and this space is clearly poised to explode.”
Charlie Cain, Consultant
“A breakout event for the industry. The success can be measured by the large number of exhibitors and attendees or the wealth of knowledge shared in the presentations, but the power of the event was the connections that were made between those in all aspects of our industry, including investors and entrepreneurs. What a fantastic time.”
Alan Brochstein, Founder, 420 Investor
“At a time when many new organizations are attempting to put on cannabis industry conferences, the MJ Business Daily event is the ‘Must attend’ event of the year. As an industry veteran it gives me the opportunity to connect with friends and colleagues from across the country, as well as forge new relationships.”
Jay Czarkowski, Senior Partner, Canna Advisors
“It was so invigorating to meet business leaders facing the same strategic challenges and opportunities, as we are trying to plan for uncharted territories. We connected, learned, shared and had a lot of fun doing it!”
Patricia Rosi, Wellness Connection of Maine
“I had an overall amazing experience. I am already making plans on having my team come with me next year. This is an EPIC event that cannot be missed if you’re serious about the cannabis industry on any level.”
Kelli M Smith, Gigi and Nana’s Pharma
“If you’re in this business for the long run then these are the people to meet. Just by taking the extra effort and attending gives you as a business person a whole dimensional look as to what you’re doing. Can’t put a price on networking.”
Mark Mobray, Kleen Karma
“As the CEO of an ancillary start up, I was psyched to learn so much about the industry in such a short period of time. I’m an Big Four Consulting veteran and the presentations given at the show were easily as professional as those I have seen given by firm Partners or Fortune 500 clients! I made a lot of great contacts that I am actively converting to clients; great show!”
David Minder, Founder, CannaBiz Trusted Advisors
“The diversity of the attendees made for a one-a-kind networking experience. This is a ‘must attend’ conference in 2015”
Ed Hogan, Founder, Notender Systems
“Excellent event - We gathered many leads and developed numerous solid business contacts for our product.”
Gary Grimshaw, Toke and Toss
