CASH WRAP
section equipment layout
the CASHWRAP
is a custom made piece of furniture accommodating 4 cash registers and
bagging stations while serving as display for last minute impulse buys.
made of laminated plywood and sculpted fiberglass, it brings the bio metaphor used throughout the project to human scale.
The
challenge of the
project, situated on the
main pedestrian loop of the zoo, was to
achieve a balance between distinction and contextuality. Its retail function warranted prominence, while the carefully "naturalized" zoo environment typically assigned architecture a supporting role.
As a response, in our studies we explored soft, biomorphic tectonics. The fluid play of two intersected
volumes originated in clay; it was then controlled and refined in a computer
model. We researched and abstracted animal movement while trying not to
mimic any particular biology. As a result two series of quadratic surfaces defined
each of the two bodies and were superimposed to imprint traces of one into
the other. These imprints were made legible in the wood siding through changes in texture,
color and orientation.

THE CONCEPT for this theme park is ris o of the traditional heritage of this culturally diverse, minori-ties rich area of South East China.
The park is organized around ve themed areas featuring dierent aspects of the river Li cultures. The main ideas was to introduce important cultural tourism themes and use the lighter park entertainment around them in a cohesive way.

THE CONCEPT for this restaurant is based on a traditional South Asian hat, very popular among the shermen down the river Li. The hats are triaxially woven from thin bamboo strips produc-ing an open and even trellis pattern.
The structure would allow dierent levels of openness and transparency, to accommodate inside and patio seating areas.

The design for the streetcar SHELTERS was motivated primarily by eciency: seeking to achieve maximum eect with minimum material investment at optimum size.
The tempered glass canopy is cantilevered over a central post. In the enclosed congu-ration, seating for six waiting passengers cantilevers as well, creating a clean, transparent, easy to maintain design, complementing the historical neighborhood.
