• Number of safety tours undertaken per year• Number of items found wanting• Near-miss statistics• Number of risk assessments undertaken• Number of risk assessments that are out of date

• We are compared to other departments!

Meetings that I have to attend or report to

• Fortnightly there is a meeting to discuss safety codes and any immediate concerns.

• Three times a year there is a formal meeting with written reports. That's all departments on site, Laser, PPD, Space Science, Isis, Diamond, etc. There is a union representative too. It’s Chaired by Paul Hartley and reports to STFC Executive Co-ordination group chaired by Keith Mason or Richard Wade

• Where do the rules come from that go into the various codes?

• Most STFC codes are based upon British Law.

• The STFC codes define how we must proceed in order to comply with the various laws.

• These should by now have been cascaded to you by your line managers.

• Noise at Work... Code 18. defines responsibilities, sets limits for action

• Portable Electrical Equipment ...Code 17

of mobile phone....

• Work on Buildings Premises Services and Infrastructure…. Code 19. Basically says that you( staff and tenants) can do nothing, even minor works (such as hanging pictures), without talking

to Estates.
