AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS
FROM THE COMMANDER
Happy 2006 Year! We hope it will be a better year for all of us, especially those of us that have gone thru such a siege of the flu. Without antibiotics I don’t think we’d get over it, barring a heat-wave to sweat it out. We are well into the month of January as I write this. Saturday, the 14th the Post conducted a Memorial Service of the Post Everlasting for Legionnaire, Past First Vice Commander, Susan Johnson, who endured many years of medical problems, pain, loss of limbs and confined to handicapped mobility. Such a beautiful lady, always willing to help others and the American Legion. The service was conducted by the Commander and Post Chaplain (Thank you Norma Cameron). The service was followed by a luncheon at the Post. Susan’s immediate family; Mother Sister, Brother and their families from New Mexico attended, plus Legionnaires and Auxiliary. Thank you, Unit 52 Auxiliary ladies for setting the appropriate colors, tables and the luncheon, Mark Mills for Acting Sgt at Arms and all that attended, made the family feel at home. Feb 5th is just around the corner with Super Bowl Sunday at the Post, sponsored by the 40&8. Plenty of food, snacks and TV’s to watch. Friday, February 10th at 6 PM will be Karaoke, Potluck, plus raffle by the Auxiliary. Come join in with your Valentine - Sweethearts to sing, dance, eat and be merry. More info will be posted at the club. Don’t forget Tuesday, and Saturday night Shuffleboard, and Cribbage on Sundays. Stay Healthy, for God and Country.

AUXILIARY UNIT 52 NEWS
Dear Members, This past Christmas was a wonderful one; the project to bring Veterans in the local nursing homes gifts was a resounding success. We would like to thank everyone who joined together to make this work. Those Legion, Auxiliary, and ALR members who helped wrap, shop, and of course deliver: Mark Spears, Peggy spears, Maya (Great-Granddaughter), Allane Granado, Harriet O’Brien, Carole Hivley, Kay Nazimiec, Linda David, ( Lindsey Stewart, Adam Stewart,) Granddaughter & Grandson of Alice M., Norma Cameron, Keith Wilson and children Dereck and Amanda, Christine French, Mata, Steve Mckinney, Bob Avery, Morris Boswell, Dan Coram, Rudy Dettler, Toby Frayser, Richard Funke, Ray Hopkins, David Marts, Nellie Marts, Randy Maurer, Steve Scot, Tony Anderson. Thank you all. Thanks to the joint efforts of all of our units we were able to give a total of 58 Veterans a total of 156 gifts this year. The gifts were well received and deeply appreciated by the Veterans. They expressed their gratitude in many ways, sharing some laughs and even tears with the members delivering. Overall it was a rewarding experience for everyone involved. One of our long time members Sue Johnson passed away. Services were held at the Legion Post 52 on the 14th of January 2006, followed by a luncheon. Our deepest condolences to her family, we’ll keep you in our prayers. Our President Gina is now home from the hospital, but she is still recuperating. We send our best wishes, and hope that she gets well soon.

S.A.L. SQUADRON 52 NEWS
I'm often asked "What are the eligibility requirements to belong to the Son's of The American Legion?" Any MALE who is a DIRECT DESCENDENT of someone who is ELIGIBLE to belong to The American Legion is eligible for S.A.L. A direct descendent means of a: father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, even great-grandfathers. Brothers, sisters, uncles aunts, cousins, etc. of someone are NOT direct descendents, and therefore do not fulfill that requirement. Also, if a S.A.L. member has used his father (lets say as an example) to join, the father must also be a member of an American Legion Post or be deceased. When possible, a copy of the persons DD214 is required as proof of eligibility. Don't forget, any male American Legion member who also meets these requirements is eligible for dual membership for only $10/year. What an inexpensive way to give additional support to your Post. We really need you. If anyone has additional questions please contact me or Ron Tucker.

ANHEUSER-BUSCH HERO SALUTE UPDATE 01: A tribute program that provided free admission to Anheuser-Busch theme parks to more than 900,000 members of U. S. and coalition armed forces and their families has been extended through 2006. The program provides a single day's free admission to any one SeaWorld or Busch Gardens park, Sesame Place, Adventure Island or Water Country USA for the servicemember and as many as three of his or her direct dependents. Any active duty, active reserve or Ready Reserve servicemember or National Guardsman is entitled under the program. He or she need only register, either online at www.herosalute.com or in the entrance plaza of a participating park, and show a Defense Department photo ID. Also included in the offer are members of foreign military forces serving in the coalitions in Iraq or Afghanistan or in the United States attached to American units for training. Inactive, standby and retired reserve members, military retirees, U. S. Merchant Marine and civilian DoD employees are ineligible for the program. Dependents may take advantage of the offer without their service member, though an adult must accompany minor dependents. Busch Gardens Williamsburg and SeaWorld San Antonio are seasonal operations that will remain closed until spring 2006. The remaining parks, SeaWorld Orlando, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and SeaWorld San Diego are open year round. Personnel interested in visiting those parks can check operating schedules at www.herosalute.com. Here's to the Heroes is the fourth tribute to military personnel offered by Anheuser-Busch since Yellow Ribbon Summer welcomed servicemembers home from the Gulf War in 1991. More than 3 million people have visited Anheuser-Busch Adventure Parks free under these programs [Source: American Forces Press
