CONCEPT statement

Tom and Nancy Barr live in Libertyville, Illinois and have recently found a winter home in Palm Springs, California. The home is located in the up-scale, historic Vista Palms area. This home expresses mid-century modern design and they have requested that the design is sensitive to this, and their passion to cook.

EL LOCAL CALLE

Digging deeper into the art culture that was impacted by La Movida Madrilena; graffiti art, dancing, and culinary expression filled the streets of Barcelona. Explosive colors within the city streets makes for a unique atmosphere and a community with so much pride. Fierce dancing from Flamingo to Latin dance has created a life with so much energy within the local streets. Streaks of vibrant details will be intertwined to represent the action of life.

DETAILING

Renzo Piano influenced my design though modernism and high-tech design. The visible technology in the form of construction grids were what made a big impact on this design, inside and out. Natural light, metal, and glass are the main elements of this building.

HOTEL MOVIDA

Barcelona has a rich architectural legacy. It is perhaps lesser known for the Movida Madrillena art movement of the late 1970’s. Barcelona had gained a new found freedom of speech and expression though a new way of dressing , creating, loving, and living. This movement was the start to a very outspoken unique community. Artistic elements such as curved forms within the interior architecture along with intricate feature walls will be incorporated to express this.
