There are 2 types of discs in size — 12 cmand 8 cm. Their longest play time is 74 and20 minutes respectively. The actual playtime, however, varies among the discs.

Note on VIDEO CDsThis player conforms to Version 1.1 and 2.0of VIDEO CD standards. You can enjoytwo kinds of playback according to the disctype.

Notes on handling discs•To keep the disc clean, handle it by its

Using the PBC functions , you can playa VIDEO CD with PBC functions(Version 2.0) (simple interactivesoftware, software with searchfunctions, etc.)Refer also to the instructions suppliedwith the disc, as the operatingprocedure may differ according to thediscs.

1 Insert a VIDEO CD with PBCfunctions (see page 5).

To play the disc in normal playmode and cancel playback usingPBC functions

Press PBC ON/OFF on the remote sothat “PBC OFF” appears on the TVscreen, “PBC” disappears from thedisplay, and normal playback starts (inthe sequence of the track numbers). Inthis case, you cannot play back stillpictures including menu screens.To resume playback using PBCfunctions, press the button again.

Locating scenesdirectly using thescene numbers(Scene Search)

On VIDEO CDs with PBC functions, themenus, moving pictures and stillpictures are divided into “scenes” andeach scene is assigned with a scenenumber.Check the current scene number bydisplaying it on the TV screen duringplayback (see page 11). Be sure toremember the scene number you wantto start playing from.

1 Press SCENE while playing a disc.“SCENE” appears on the TV screen.

2 Press the number buttons and +10to select the scene number youwant.The selected scene number appearson the TV screen.

If you have made a mistake

Repeat the same procedure fromStep 1 again.

Notes•Some discs do not allow you to start

You can check the operating status ofthe player and the information aboutthe disc on the TV screen.

Press OSD.Each time you press the button, theOSD (On-Screen Display) mode changesas follows:

Playing in randomorder (Shuffle Play)You can have the player “shuffle” tracksand play them at random.

Press PLAY MODE repeatedly duringplay until “SHUFFLE” appears on thedisplay.Shuffle play starts from the next trackand plays back every track once.

To stop shuffle play, press PLAY MODErepeatedly until “SHUFFLE”disappears.

Notes•During shuffle play, you cannot go back

to the previous tracks by pressing PREV=.

•If you select a track directly by pressingthe number button (see page 12), shuffleplay will be canceled.

•This function is not available during PBCplayback (to set PBC OFF, see page 9).

1 While playing a disc, press PLAYMODE repeatedly until “INTROPGM” flashes.

2 Press SELECT (.“INTRO PGM” flashes faster, andall tracks are played for 15 seconds,one after another.

3 Press REPEAT/ENTER while thetrack you want to play back later isbeing played. If you want to skipthe track, press NEXT +.

When the last track in the disc has beenplayed, “INTRO PGM” stops flashingand then the player starts playing onlythe tracks you have selected.To stop intro program play, press PLAYMODE repeatedly until “INTRO PGM”disappears.

Notes•If you select a track directly by pressing

To check the track orderPress REPEAT/ENTER before going toStep 4. Each time you press the button,the display shows the track number inthe programmed order. After the lasttrack in the program has beendisplayed, the first track number in theprogram appears again.

Playing multiplex discs

On multiplex discs, different sounds arerecorded for the left and right channels.You can select either the left or the rightchannel and hear the sound of theselected channel. In this case, stereoeffect will be lost.

Using other functions

To prevent unintendedoperation (HOLD function)You can restrict the button operationusing the HOLD switch. This isconvenient when you carry the playerwith you.

Slide HOLD in the direction (right) ofthe arrow.The buttons on the player do notfunction.However, you can use the remote tooperate the player even with the HOLDfunction activated.

To use the buttons on the player, slideHOLD to the opposite direction (left).

To resume playing from thepoint you stopped(Resume Play)Normally, every time you stop andplay, playing starts from the beginningof the disc. Resume play, however, letsyou listen to from the point where youlast turned off the player.

Set RESUME to ON.

To cancel resume play, set RESUME toOFF.

Notes•When you open the lid, the memorized

resume point is erased regardless ofthe␣ setting of the RESUME switch. Whenyou play the disc the next time, it isplayed from the beginning.

•The resume point may be inaccurate byabout 30 seconds.

•This function is not available during PBCplayback (to set PBC OFF, see page 9).

To adjust the␣ volumeYou can adjust the TV volume andheadphones volume (within the rangefrom 01 to 10) using the remote.

Press VOL +/–.When you press VOL +, the volumeincreases.When you press VOL –, the volumedecreases.

Connecting to otherstereo equipment

You can play back a disc through otherstereo equipment or record a disc on acassette tape or video tape. Refer to theinstruction manual supplied with otherequipment for details.Before making connections, turn offeach equipment.

* If other stereo equipment has neither theLINE IN jack nor the REC IN jacks,connect to the MIC jack with the RK-G134connecting cord (not supplied).

Using the rechargeablelithium ion battery

Charge the rechargeable lithium ionbattery before using it for the first time.

1 Open the lid of the batterycompartment.

2 Insert the rechargeable lithium ionbattery as illustrated until it islocked by the battery lock lever, andclose the lid.

To remove the rechargeablelithium ion battery

Open the lid, then press the batterylock lever in the direction of thearrow.

On the unit• Keep the lens on the unit clean and

do not touch it. If you do so, the lensmay be damaged and the unit willnot operate properly.

• Do not put any heavy object on top ofthe unit. The unit and the disc may bedamaged.

• Do not leave the unit in a locationnear heat sources, or in a placesubject to direct sunlight, excessivedust or sand, moisture, rain,mechanical shock, unleveled surface,or in a car with its windows closed.

• If the unit causes interference to theradio or television reception, turn offthe unit or move it away from theradio or television.

• Do not wrap the unit in a cloth orblanket during use as it may causemalfunction or serious accidents.

On headphonesRoad safety

Do not use headphones while driving,cycling, or operating any motorizedvehicle. It may create a traffic hazardand is illegal in some areas. It can alsobe potentially dangerous to play yourheadsets at high volume while walking,especially at pedestrian crossings. Youshould exercise extreme caution ordiscontinue use in potentiallyhazardous situations.

Preventing hearing damage

Avoid using headphones at highvolume. Hearing experts advise againstcontinuous, loud and extended play. Ifyou experience a ringing in your ears,reduce volume or discontinue use.

Caring for others

Keep the volume at a moderate level.This will allow you to hear outsidesounds and to be considerate to thepeople around you.

On safety• The laser used in this unit is harmful

to your eyes. Do not disassemble theunit.

• Do not put any foreign objects in theDC IN 6.0V (external power input)jack.

• Should any solid objects or liquid fallinto the unit, unplug it and have itchecked by qualified personnelbefore operating it any further.

On power sources• When you are not using the unit for a

long time, disconnect all powersources from the unit.
