Pop Art Painting

Intro to Art

Assignment # 8

Pop Art

Pop art is a visual art movement that emerged

in the mid 1950s in Britain and in the late

1950s in the United States.

challenged tradition by asserting that an artist's

use of the mass-produced visual commodities

of popular culture is contiguous with the

perspective of fine art.

Pop removes the material from its context

and isolates the object, or combines it with

other objects, for contemplation.

Andy Warhol

wanted to remove the difference between fine arts and the commercial arts used for magazine illustrations, comic books, record albums or advertising campaigns.

Warhol once expressed his philosophy in one poignant sentence: "When you think about it, department stores are kind of like museums".

Use bright and contrasting colors.

Roy Lichtenstein

his work heavily influenced by both popular advertising and the comic book style.

Used Primary colors, black white and sometimes gray.
