Expectations for #3:

The grade 4/5 learners will: (Grade 4) formulate questions related

to their own experiences with light.

(Grade 5) formulate questions related to protection of the natural environment.

Pre-assessment: a) LearnersThe grade 4 learners:

Have had very little experiences with question generation techniques in grade 3Can identify a variety of human-made and natural sources of lightObserved some basic characteristics of light – travels a straight path, bends as passes from one medium to another, is reflected off shiny surfaces

The grade 5 learners:Have had no experience with question generation in grade 4Can distinguish between renewable and non-renewable resourcesHave viewed a video on the impact of humankind on the natural environment

Consolidation of Learning: Include specific questions for grade 4

and specific questions for grade 5.

Application for #3:Grade 4: The students will work in pairs with a light source and various equipment such as mirrors, prisms

and opaque, translucent and transparent slides to brainstorm questions about light and its properties.

Grade 5: The students will work in pairs to view a series of

pictures of piles of garbage in various settings and to brainstorm questions about the protection of the natural environment.
