OBJECTIVES:

On the completion of the topic the

student will able to understand

The Concept of Laminations

Pkg503.68 TO 69 3

What is a Flexible Laminate..?

“A flexible film laminate is a combination of

two or more layers of different films

bonded together to form a multi-ply

structure.”

Pkg503.68 TO 69 4

Why Laminate?

There is no perfect, universal packaging material

Laminates assemble materials with individually desirable properties to create an optimum material

Laminate: A product made by bonding together two or more materials

Why Flexible Laminates..?

It combines the properties of individual

layers and gives options to develop a

packaging structure that suits the exact

requirements of the product to be packed.

Types of Lamination Process

1. Adhesive Lamination

- Adhesive is applied between the two layers of substrates which are to be

bonded.

Pkg503.68 TO 69 14

Types of Lamination Process

2. Extrusion Lamination

- Extrusion coating where polymer film is extruded on a single web (2-ply laminate) or between 2 webs (multi-ply laminate).

Types of Lamination Process

3. Heat & Pressure Lamination

- Usually adopted for Aluminium foil. Readymade film is pre-heated and combined with foil to form a composite.
