PITCH STYLE SHEET AND LAYOUT

Draft PITCH

• Name of magazine- snuff• Genre- rock • Style/ attitude- casual • Genre- rock • Cost- £2.90• Target audience- 16 - 24• Sample articles• Bi-weekly

Title

• I have chosen the title “SNUFF” because it is a short word and easy to say and remember. I came up with the idea of snuff as it is the name of a slipknot song and my genre for this magazine is rock; slipknot are a metal band. I think this name fits nicely with the name of a magazine as it is catchy

• This also fits with the type of audience I have chosen to use because snuff is an old thing associated with snuff boxes used in the war. This is bringing an old thing back to life and it shows my magazine is rebellious as it is an older persons thing and my target audience is young.

Target audience

NRS social grade ABC1- my target audience will be middle class as they will have a little extra money to spend on magazines (luxuries). My target audience will be quite young as my results from the questionnaire are mainly from a 16-19 year old demographic.I will also aim my magazine towards the male audience as from my results more males than females did it. I will still include the females as a ¼ of them answered my survey. This shows more males buy or are interested in music magazines.Based on my research the audience are primarily white British. Due to where I live.

Genre style/attitude • My chosen genre for my magazine will be a wide variety

of rock genres. The style and attitude of my magazine will be casual, by using informal language and using an equal text to picture ratio because from my results I can see that my audience prefer a 50:50 text to picture ratio. I will include this many images because younger people are not interested in reading lots of information. A magazine is a luxury and shouldn’t be seen as a reading chore. The style of my magazine will be aimed to appeal to the younger generation. So it will include lots of attitude images new bands competitions posters anything that will appeal to this difficult audience. It will be in your face and full of new interesting things. My inspiration for this choice comes from magazines such as Kerrang! and Metal Hammer. I want my magazine to have a typical rock magazine look which will be instantly recognisable. I will do this by choosing an appropriate colour scheme, wording and images.

Cost and frequency From my research I found that my audience would be willing to pay between £2-£3 for a magazine. I chose £2.90 as it is close to the maximum amount willing to pay but just under as my audience will think they are getting a good deal. I chose to publish this magazine fortnightly, although my results are mainly for monthly. I think in order for my magazine to do well and become popular it needs to be fairly frequent. £2.90 is not a lot of money to pay fortnightly as my audience is young and may not have a lot of disposable income.

structure

• I will have approximately 50-60 pages in my magazine; this will be a fairly small magazine. It is quite frequent so there will be less information to include.

My magazine will include reviews, interviews, special features and posters stretching across several pages. It will also include lots of new information on bands, festivals and other recent issues occurring in the music world.I want to include interviews as it brings the audience closer to the band member being interviewed. It also gives the audience member answers to any questions they may have about the band.

Style sheet

Fonts for my magazine

Colour schemeI have chosen the colour scheme red white and black because of the results from my survey. This colour scheme clearly appeals to my target audience . Plus they are all vey strong opposite colours. The red represents the attitude I want for my magazine. The black is dark and represents the dark music I will include such as slipknot.

Also these are the most stereotypical colours for rock and rock magazines.

Sample image

For my front cover I will use a medium close up. Like this image here. I want to include other stories on my front page and a medium close us as my main image will let me. This is possible because there is space around the person in the image to be able to include other headlines.
