The statue of Happy Prince stood high above the city. It was all gold. The Prince’s eyes were two blue jewels and a large red ruby glowed on his sword.

One night there flew over the city a little Swallow. He saw the statue on the tall column. So he alighted just between the feet of the Happy Prince

But just as he was

putting his head

under his wing,he

saw the eyes of the

Happy

Prince were filled

with tears.

The Prince asked the Swallow to take his leaf by leaf,and give it to the poor.

Leaf after leaf of the fine gold the Swallow picked off,till theHappy Prince looked quite dull and grey. He brought leaf after leaf of the fine gold to the poor,and the children’s faces grewrosier, and they laughed and played games in the street.

We have bread now!

But at last he knew that he was going to die. He had just strength tofly up to the Prince’s shoulder once more. And he kissed the HappyPrince on the lips, and fell down dead at his feet……

Then the snow came,and after the snow came the frost. The poor Little Swallow grew colder and colder,but he would not leave the Prince,he loved him too well.

After some time,the spring was coming. All the snow liquidized.The weather became warm. But the Swallow’s dead body wasn’t PutrefiedThen the local government fired to appropriation on sculpt of Happy Prince.The Happy Prince and the Swallow were put into the melting-pot together by the workman.Then the sculptor sculptured again Happy Prince.But his shoulder had a gold Swallow.All the people didn’t know why the Prince’s shoulder had a Swallow.Somehow,the sculptor didn’t know why he sculptured a Swallow on the Prince’s shoulder.But the city became rich.
