WHAT IS CARIBBEAN CARNIVAL?

• Carnival is a creative cultural celebration that takes place throughout the Caribbean each year.

• The Caribbean Carnival has been transported to North America and Europe through the migration of Caribbean peoples.

• Each year Caribbean Carnivals take place across the world in dozens of cities attracting thousands of masqueraders.

History OF Philadelphia Carnival

• Began in the late 1980s, participating as a part of the African American Day Parade

• Independently began production in the mid-1990s.

• Last held in 2017, attracted approx. 5,000 attendees, 6 bands and 8+ vendors
