Popular Recreation

• Pre-industrial sports and pastimes (often associated more with the lower classes, however the upper class also were involved in sporting activities.)

• This term could also refer to the most popular pastimes at the time.

Nineteenth Century Public Schools

• Old established, fee paying schools attended by upper class boys.

Rational Recreation

• Civilised and organised sports and pastimes of post-industrial Britain.

State Elementary Schools

• Schools for lower class primary aged children.
