1. Curriculum for Pre-Elementary, Elementary, and Junior High School
The K to 12 Basic Education Program shall be used by Southbay
Montessori School in compliance with DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015.
The assessment process for the learners is holistic, with emphasis
on the formative or developmental purpose of quality assuring student
learning. It is also standards-based and competency-based grading system
as it seeks to ensure that teachers will teach the standards and students will
aim to meet or even exceed the standards. The learner’s attainment of
standards and competencies in terms of content and performance is,
therefore, a critical evidence of learning.
2. Grading Components
SBMS students are graded based on the three components. These
are Written Works (WW), Performance Tasks (PT), and Quarterly
Assessments (QA) every grading period. The nature of the learning area
defines the way these three components are assessed.
a. The Written Works Component ensures that students are able to
express skills and concepts in written forms. Written Works may include
long quizzes, and unit or long tests, help strengthen test-taking skills among
earners. Through also these, learners are able to practice and prepare for
the quarterly assessment and other standardized assessments. Other
written work may include essays, written reports, and other written output.
b. The Performance Task Component allows learners to show what
they know and are able to do in diverse ways. They may create or innovate
products or do performance-based tasks. Performance-based tasks may
include skills demonstration, group presentations, oral work, multimedia
presentations, and research projects. It is important to note that written
output may also be considered as performance task.
c. The Quarterly Assessment Component measures student
learning at the end of the quarter. These may be in a form of objective tests
such as Monthly Tests and Periodical Tests, performance –based, or a
combination thereof.
Below is the percentage weight of the components in each learning
area

and the summary of learner’s progress is shown quarterly to parents and
guardians through parent-teacher conference also known as the card
viewing, in which the content of the report card is being discussed.
4. Learner Promotion and Retention
Southbay Montessori School employs the “Averaging” grading
system. The Final Grade for each learning area shall be reported as the
average of the four quarterly ratings. The general average shall be the
average of the final grades of the different learning areas.
A learner shall be promoted to the next grade level when he/she
gets the passing grade of 75 & or higher in all learning areas. However, a
learner who did not meet expectations in at most two (2) learning areas

c. Loitering at the corridors and in the campus during class hours
d. Drinking liquor, smoking, taking harmful prohibited drugs
e. Gambling, extortion and vandalism
f. Carrying deadly weapons such as guns, knives, ice picks, etc.
g. Indecent acts and public display of affection (PDA)
h. Speaking indecent language, cursing and possessing pornographic
pictures, literatures, and videos.
i. Cheating in class work.
C. ATTENDANCE
Regular school attendance is essential. As a general rule, absences
should occur only as a result of illness or injury. Doctor’s appointments
should be scheduled outside of the school day. When an absence is
planned, it is helpful if the teacher is informed as far in advance as possible.
Tardiness has the same impact as an absence. It is a loss of instructional
time. IF A STUDENT IS ABSENT, his/her parent must call the Office of the
Principal or the adviser before the class session begins. A written excuse
giving the date of the absence and the reason is required after any absence
or tardiness, if no phone call is received. Absences must be excused within
48 hours or they are considered unexcused.
1. Tardiness
Instruction at SBMS begins promptly at 7:30 in the morning, and it is
critical that all students be prepared to begin instruction on time. Therefore,
a student must arrive at school before 7:30 in the morning. A student who is
late misses valuable instructional time and conveys an unacceptable lack of
regard for the school.
The parent must accompany any student who arrives after 8:00
A.M. to the office before proceeding to the classroom. The student will be
considered tardy and the incident will be recorded. If a student is tardy four
times, the problem will be regarded as chronic, and it will be reported.
In addition, no child will be dismissed early, unless for special
circumstances. Being at school on time in the morning and staying in
school until the end of the school day is essential in receiving a good
education. If a child is picked up early more than four times, this will be
regarded as chronic and will be handled in the same manner as chronic
tardiness.
2. Absences
Parents must contact the Office of the Principal or the class adviser
by phone whenever a child is going to be absent, and send a written excuse
to the teacher when the child returns to school. The school has a dedicated
phone lines for all calls related to attendance:
(049) 523-6123 and 0995-261-0830.
The following reasons are sufficient cause for an excused absence:
(a) illness, (b) death in the family, (c) inclement weather which would be
dangerous to the life or health of the child, (d) legal quarantine, (e)
emergency conditions, as determined by the School Principal, and (f) Prior
permission from the School Principal and consent from the legal guardian.
In the event that extraordinary circumstances require that the
student be absent from school, an Authorized Absence Plan may be
developed jointly by the teacher, the School Principal, the Guidance
Counselor, and the student’s parent or legal guardian. The plan will define
the length of the absence and the means by which the student will make-up
the work he or she will miss. The plan must be approved and signed by the
School Principal, Guidance Counselor and the parent/guardian prior tothe
student’s absence.
If a student returns to school after an absence without a note of
explanation from the parent, the teacher will call the parent to remind him
or her to send a note the following day. If a note is not received within two
school days of absence, the absence will be regarded as unexcused. If the
child receives three unexcused absences, the parent will receive a notice
from the school.
D. OTHER DIRECTIVES
The following are other important information that SBMS students
and parents be familiar with.
1. Self-Discipline
All pupils must observe proper discipline and decorum inside the
school campus at all times especially in the classroom and along the
corridors. Any misbehavior like not in proper line, shouting, laughing,
whistling, running or other unnecessary noise, use of foul language,
throwing, hiding other student’s things, dragging of shoes, bags and the
like, teasing others, showing disrespect to anybody and other disturbing
acts are subject to sanctions.
2. Politeness, Courtesy and Full Cooperation
As SBMS student, politeness and utmost cooperation is expected in
and out of the school campus. Much more, each student must be kind
enough to all especially in dealing with School Administrators, Principal,
Faculty and Staff, visitors, parents and fellow students.
Praise to good acts, use of polite/courteous expressions like “thank
you”, “I’m sorry”, “Please”, “Kindly excuse me”, “beg your pardon”, “May
or can I”, “Greetings of Good morning/afternoon”, use of Sir and Madam,
and offer of help are mostly expected.
3. Girl-Boy Relationship
Every boy and girl should act accordingly to the norms of morality.
Any violation or scandalous behavior is subject to sanction. Strictly no
“Public Display of Affection” or the so called “PDA” must be observed.
4. Consideration and Respect on the Property of Fellow Student
Each student must come to school well equipped with all the
needed things in each subject. He/She is responsible in taking care of
his/her things. Destroying or writing on other student’s things without
permission is subject to sanctions.
5. Proper Care, Cleanliness, and Orderliness Inside the Classrooms, School
Campus and School Facilities
Every SBMS student must consider this school as his/her second
home. He/She is therefore expected to give due respect and act accordingly
to all people and to school properties. Proper use and care, concern,
cleanliness and orderliness inside and outside the classroom are
responsibilities of a student so he/she must obey the following guidelines:
5.1 Put properly the garbage in the trash cans.
5.2 Clean, arrange or put the used tables and chairs in the proper
place after using or at the end of each class hour session.
5.3 No vandalism and no loitering.
5.4 Air condition and lights in the classroom and comfort room
should be switched off after using and before leaving the room.
5.5 Proper use and care of other school facilities like classrooms,
tables and chairs, library, kiosk/canteen, function hall, court, quadrangle,
benches.
5.6 Use and maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the comfort
room.
6. Student Departure Procedures
Any student who wishes to leave the school campus earlier than the
usual dismissal time must present to his/her Class Adviser a letter properly
signed by his/her parent/guardian citing the reason and intent. If found
reasonable, the Class Adviser endorse it to the Guidance Counselor or
School Principal and secure two (2) student departure written permits/gate
passes. One copy will be kept by the class adviser and the other will be
presented to the School Guard. The pupil must sign and fill up the new
information in the Guard’s logbook before he/she leaves the campus.
7. Lost and Found Objects
Any lost and found thing/belonging like money and other valuables
should be surrendered by the finder to the Guidance Counselor or School
Principal who will record the complete information as to where, when and
how they are found. This will be announced in the Bulletin Board near the
Guidance/Principal’s office. It can be claimed by the owner after class hours
after due process and proven as the real owner.
8. Policies on Fetching of Student and Related Circumstances
SBMS management tries its best to take care of the pupils/students
during official class hours. Fetchers should have an I. D.
9. Communication between Teachers and Parents
Teachers and parents should have a harmonious relationship to
uphold the school’s vision and mission. It is the duty and responsibility of
each parent to monitor the progress of his child in school. Thus, he has to
attend school meetings, assemblies, viewing of report cards, conferences
and activities set by the school.
10. Consultation, Conference and Emergency Visit with School Personnel
SBMS encourages each parent to monitor the scholastic standing
and behavioral status of his/her child to ensure a good camaraderie and for
the welfare of the student. Yet in order to avoid disruption of classes or
ongoing school activities, appointment with the School Secretary should be
done a day before the actual date of scheduled appointment with the
School Administrator, Principal, Guidance Counselor, Class Advisers, Subject
Teachers or any School Employee.
However, in case of emergency visit to any student or school
employee, the visitor must secure a Visitor’s Pass/ID from the Guard and at
the same time sign completely on the Visitor’s Log Book. The Guard should
inform the School Principal about the matter and let the visitor to wait at
the Admission Office.
11. Organizing Parties
If ever the parent wants to have a party or birthday celebration of
his/her child in school, he/she should inform the adviser and make an
appointment with the School Secretary or the School Principal and sign the
logbook one (1) day before the event and as much as possible, it should be
done only during recess or lunch time.
12. Field Trips
Field trips may be planned throughout the year for various
academic enrichment and extracurricular purposes. Parents may be asked
to assist in paying for field trips. They will receive advance notice of all such
trips. A permission slip must be signed by a student’s parent/guardian in
order for the student to participate in a fieldtrip.
Occasionally, parents will be needed to serve as chaperones for Pre-
elementary and Primary Students on class field trips. No parent should feel
obligated to serve in this capacity, but parents are encouraged to volunteer
if possible. The primary responsibility of a chaperone is to ensure
appropriate supervision for students. Parental chaperones are asked to take
this responsibility seriously and to remain vigilant and attentive to the
student’s needs throughout the trip. Babies and children who are not
enrolled in the class may not accompany the chaperones.
13. English Speaking Policy
English is used as a medium of instruction in all subjects except
Filipino and AP. All students are required to speak in English in and out of
the classroom or as long as they are inside the campus. Remember that we
can talk to the whole world if we can speak in English.
14. Assignments
Homework will be given on as needed basis, or if your child does not
complete the required amount of work during class instruction. Each
student is responsible for completing his or her assignments and for turning
in on time. If homework is turned in late, it will affect student’s grade.
15. Contests and Competitions
Contests and competitions referred to those organized by SBMS and
those outside the school campus organized by DepEd or any Government or
Non Government Organizations.
Academic and other contests are conducted to promote
camaraderie among students, build self confidence, and develop a
wholesome personality, sportsmanship and to support instructions. There
are forms of culminating activities also. Thus, all parents are advised to
encourage and support their children to participate any contest or
competition.
16. Class Projects
SBMS is under the Department of Education (DepEd) which requires
each student from Pre-Elementary, Elementary, Junior High School and
Senior High School Level to accomplish 1 or 2 projects in every subject area
every quarter. Some projects may be done or made during class subject
schedule while some project will be asked to finish at home.
17. Bags, Books, Notebooks and SBMS Diary
Bags, books, notebooks and SBMS Diary are the most important
needs of the students in school. These should be given special care.
Notebooks, books and SBMS diary should be properly covered and labeled
and must be checked by the Adviser or subject teachers as well as by the
parents/guardians.
18. Class Picture
Student’s days with SBMS family are very important and
memorable. So a colored class picture is taken to keep his/her track record
of attendance in every grade level.
E. POLICIES ON DISCIPLINE
As a student enrolls in SBMS, he/she and the parents agree to the
rules and regulations set by the school. Therefore, SBMS makes sure that all
those rules and regulations must be followed by all. In case abstraction of
these is committed, disciplinary actions shall be imposed.
1. Guidelines in Implementing Disciplinary Action
Parents/Guardians are notified either by the phone or letter each
time a serious irregularity or complaint is reported against a student. The
adviser will issue a call slip to the parent containing the alleged
offense/irregularity committed by the concerned student. The
parent/guardian is expected to come to school for discussion before the
student is allowed to attend his/her classes. Failure to comply with this
guideline means suspension.
Interview and consultation with the School Administrator/School
Principal/Guidance Counselor and teachers are preferably done in the
morning during free time and in the afternoon after class hours. No
consultation shall be done during class hours unless an appointment is
made prior to the scheduled consultation.
