“Permit the children to come to Me”

Mark 10:13-16 (NASV)

13 And they were bringing children to Him so that He

might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But

when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them,

“Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them;

for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly

I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of

God like a child will not enter it at all.” 16 And He took

them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His

hands on them.

Verse 13

People were bringing children to Jesus …..

Parents

• keen to have children blessed• prepared to put themselves out• might today represent parents who “opt in”

Verse 13

….. But the disciples scolded them

Disciples

• tried to hinder parents and children• could not have been more wrong• today – could be siding with the critics of RE in schools

Verse 14

When Jesus saw this …..

Jesus

• wants to bless children• was “indignant” - aganakteo in Greek

• still cares about children

Therefore …

We do our children a great disservice if we hinder them from encountering the story and message of Jesus
