Call RSPCA Darwin on 8984 3795.

SEVERAL local businesses havepulled together to help RSPCADarwin with some plumbingproblems.

HPD Plumbing owner operatorBrian Petrie said he was initiallyapproached by the RSPCA to fixa toilet on the premises.

‘‘There was only one workingtoilet on the premises for all thestaff and volunteers, and it was allthe way at the front of the blockso everyone had to take a cutlunch and thermos to get to it,’’he said.

During his investigations Mr

Petrie, a qualified plumber andengineer, discovered a secondtoilet that everyone thought wasbroken actually just neededconnecting to the seweragesystem. So he fixed that.

With donations of time, toolsand materials from Flowmaster,Reeces, Think Water, Humes andPalmerston Precast, HPDPlumbing was able to install anew septic system and also athird toilet.

‘‘The RSPCA do a great job —a job I can’t do, but I can use mytrade to help them,’’ Mr Petriesaid.

‘‘The tradies of Darwin love

their animals and are willing togive as much as they can to helpthe RSPCA.’’

Donations of labour andmaterials saved the RSPCAmore than $5000.

RSPCA Darwin generalmanager Julie Ingham said theorganisation was grateful to thecommunity-minded businesseswho got involved and that thecompleted work will help them alot coming into kitten season.

‘‘One of the toilets is in abuilding we use as an isolationfacility and because of that, itneeds to be kept clean and haverunning water,’’ she said.
