Working wonders for those in our community… “I first came to Rose of Sharon as a pregnant, young mom, thinking this would never happen to me,” explains Brittany, now
with her five year old son, Ethan and one year old daughter, Sarah. At 17, Brittany came to the Rose of Sharon to enroll in the mother baby programs designed to assist her and her new family get on their feet. Everything from diapers, food, clothing, cooking classes, completion of high school education, Ontario Works application, resume assistance and more was available to her. Within a year, she was able to use her new-found skills to adjust to her new life. Brittany thanks ShareLife donors for their financial support to help them deal with the challenges they have faced, and learning to grow as a family and enjoy each other. Last year, over 6,300 young parents received the care, counselling and educational support they needed to care for themselves and their new families.

HEROIC CATHOLICISM
Saturday, May 28th You are invited on May 28th to join Tim Staples and Tanya Granic Allen at the Canada
Christian College in Toronto in what is going to be another amazing day filled with prayer, faith and fellowship. In a world where it is increasingly more difficult to practice our faith, the world and the Church require people to practice heroic Catholicism. For information and to purchase tickets: www.ServiamMinistries.com/events/heroic, or email: info@serviamministries.com or call 1-888-522-2070.
VOCATIONS OFFICE Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. Listen to what Jesus says, “When the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth.” What is ‘truth’ of your life? How can you best serve God? If you think God is calling you to be a priest, religious or deacon, contact Fr. Christ Lemieux, Vocation Director at 416-968-0997 or email: vocations@archtoronto.org
MERCY AND THE UNFORGIVABLE SIN
God offers us limitless mercy. There is no offense, no wound, no darkness that God’s mercy cannot forgive, heal, and illumine. As the Psalmist says, ‘He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor requite us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us (Ps 103:10-12). The divine mercy is never exhausted by those who seek it.
Even though God’s mercy is boundless, Jesus nevertheless refers to an unforgivable sin (Mt 12:31-32). This sin is unforgivable not because God is lacking in mercy but because, in his love for us, God gave us the freedom to refuse his love and reject his mercy. Jesus refers to this as sinning “against the Holy Spirit.” Commenting on Jesus’ words, the Catechism teaches, “There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy by repenting, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit (cf. John Paul II, Dominum et vivificantem 46). Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss” (CCC1864).
Thus, the only thing that can be said to “limit” the mercy of God is a stony heart. When a person refuses to ask for God’s mercy or avail himself of the sacraments instituted to effect forgiveness and reconciliation, he cuts himself off from the infinite stream of divine mercy flowing from the heart of Jesus. God will not force the proud heart to submit to the order of this wisdom and love.
In other words, as Pope Francis has said many times since his first Angelus address: “God never tires of forgiving us! The problem is that we ourselves tire, we do not want to ask, we grow weary of asking for forgiveness.” We become hard-hearted and lose confidence in God’s mercy.
The remedies to hardness in the human heart are lively faith and hope in the goodness of God. Christians must cling to the truth that the grace of Christ promised them in the Church and her sacraments is sufficient to heal them from every sin and renew them from within.
No bad habit or vicious activity, no moral flaw or sinful choice, can exhaust the love and mercy of the crucified and risen Christ. However, we must open the doors to his mercy by avoiding hardness of heart, cultivating instead hearts of humble faith and confident hope.
~ Father Christopher Seiler
