Greenwood Park police are investigating cases ofmurder and attempted murder after a 25-year-oldman was shot dead, while two others sustainedinjuries on Sunday afternoon.Police spokesman, Col Thembeka Mbhele, saidthe motive of the shooting is not not at this stage.Netcare 911 paramedics’ media liaison officer,Shawn Herbst said, ‘One of the men believed tobe in his late twenties sustained fatal gunshot

wounds and was declared dead on the scene. Theother two men were treated on scene by Netcare911 and Crises Medical. The eThekwini Fire andRescue Services had to be called to set up a ‘ropeand basket’ system to lower the injured from therailway tracks where the patients were found.Both men were treated on scene by an Advancedlife support paramedic and transported to hospitalfor further treatment.”

The suspecthas been remanded incustody at WestvilleCorrectional Services. The missing child’sgrandmother, ArleneOmardeen Paul said,

Police recently conducted an operation which ledto the arrest of four suspects, aged between 29and 35, and recovery of suspected stolen propertyand three unlicensed firearms with a total of 46rounds of ammunition.Police spokesman, Col Thembeka Mbhele, said,during an operation, police spotted a vehicle withfour occupants driving along Musgrave Road andwere instructed to stop.“A search was conducted and suspects werefound with three pistols with their serial numbersfiled off, a number of ammunitions, cash and sus-pected stolen property,” said Col Mbhele. The suspects were also linked to a number of rob-

beries which had occurred in the Port Edwardpolicing precinct and Mzamba area, Eastern Capeprovince. Suspects were charged for possessionof unlicensed firearms, possession of ammuni-tions and possession of suspected stolen property.They appeared in the Ezinqoleni Magistrate'sCourt on Tuesday and were remanded in custody.They were then transferred to the Eastern Capewhere they are appearing in the Bizana Magis-trate’s Court, facing a charge of robbery. Theconfiscated firearms will be sent for ballistic test-ing to ascertain if they were used in the commis-sion of crime.
