Senator John Hoeven last week issued the following statement af-ter the Federal Reserve Board an-nounced that it is further expanding its Main Street Lending Program to benefi t more small and mid-size businesses. The Fed is lowering the minimum loan amounts, while also increasing loan maximums, extend-ing the length of the loan terms and providing a two-year moratorium on principal payments for all loan facil-ities. Interest payments are deferred for one year.

“These are welcome changes that will help ensure a wider range of businesses can benefi t from the Main Street Lending Program,” said Hoeven. “Access to credit is an im-portant tool for maintaining these businesses’ operations and will sup-port a stronger recovery as we con-tinue to safely re-open the economy. We want to ensure that our state’s businesses have access to capital.”

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA) has received notifi cation from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that they have ordered the cancellation of the registrations for Xtendimax, FeXa-pan and Engenia, products used in over-the-top applications on Dicam-ba-tolerant soybeans.

“At the direction of the EPA we have canceled our state registrations of these products, which prohibits any further sale of them,” Agricul-ture Commissioner Doug Goeh-ring said. “However, EPA provides for the use of any product that had already been purchased prior to

The North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSAA) recently announced a fi ve-year ex-tension of Farmers Union Insur-ance’s (FUI) designation as the organization’s Premier Partner of extra and co-curricular activities for students in North Dakota. The ex-tended agreement supports a wide range of high school events through the 2025-26 academic year, includ-ing six annual scholarships for the NDHSAA Distinguished Student Program.

As states continue to lift re-strictions put into place to slow the spread of COVID-19, Montana-Da-kota Utilities reminds homeowners and contractors to always call 811 prior to starting any project that re-quires digging to keep communities safe. Using the free-of-charge es-sential public safety service by call-ing 811 or placing an online request before digging will help residents avoid accidentally damaging buried utility lines.

Summer is typically a busy time for digging activity due to the warmer weather. Homeowners and professionals alike should remem-ber to make safety a priority by call-ing 811 prior to starting work that requires digging. For homeowners, some common DIY projects that warrant calling 811 beforehand in-clude installing a mailbox or plant-ing a tree or shrub. Digging without knowing the approximate location of underground utilities can result in serious injuries, service disruptions and costly repairs if gas, electric, communications, water and sewer lines are damaged.

Everyone who calls 811 a few days before digging is connected to a local one call notifi cation center that will take the caller’s informa-tion and communicate it to local utility companies. Professional lo-cators will then visit the dig site to mark the approximate location of underground utility lines with spray paint, fl ags or both. Once a site has been accurately marked, it is safe to begin digging around the marked areas.
