NEW DELHI, Dec 3:

Making a push to promotedigital payment post demoneti-sation, petrol pumps across thecountry have installed infra-structure to accept not justcredit and debit cards but e-wallets and mobile wallets asan alternative to cash.

Also, over 4,800 petrolpumps across the country aredispensing Rs 2,000 per card aday through POS machineswipes and have dispensed Rs65 crore in the past two weeks.

“Beginning today, we arelaunching a month-long aware-ness drive at 53,077 petrol pumpsin the first phase to promote useof digital payment services,” OilMinister Dharmendra Pradhansaid while launching the drive.

Petrol pumps will hostkioks to help not just peoplebuy fuel, but others on how touse e-payment solutions.

In the second phase, thiswill be extended to 18,000 LPGdistributing gas agencies andalso CNG pumps.

Pradhan said using digitalpayment is not just safe but veryconvenient mode that helpscheck tax evasion and generationof black money, the pet theme ofPrime Minister Narendra Modi.

“We have covered two-thirds of the outlets in all capi-tals and major towns with digi-tal payment solutions,” he said.“Attempt is to reach as many

points as possible quickly.”As many as 29,905 petrol

pumps across the country havePOS machines that allows cardswipe to make payment of fuelas also dispenses cash.

Besides, 4,700 outlets nowaccept e-wallets and mobilewallets, he said, adding 1,000to 1,200 outlets are being addedto the service every second day.

“Petrol pumps transact Rs2,000 crore a day of fuel andeven if a small percentage of thiscan go in digital mode, it will bea huge thing,” he said.(PTI)
