I have two Assistant Instructors a couple of years older than the group.
They can:• provide role models for the group• relate well to the group• drive safety boats• sail with less experienced
participants or skipper when the wind is up
• provide more flexibility when splitting the group into different activities
I often use a second Instructor so we can have 2 groups doing different activities.

Activities need to be FUN
Use rubber balls, water pistols, volley balls, noodles etc.
Ask them to push the limit during activities – it will help them become more comfortable in the boat
Get them wet if the weather is suitable

Windsurfing can be:• An activity when it is too windy for dinghy sailing• An alternate activity on any sailing day• An activity where the groups swaps over from
dinghies to WindSUP’s
We have 3 WindSUPs with 3.5 and 4m sails

Stand Up Paddle Boarding can be:• An activity when there is little or no
wind• An alternate activity on any sailing
day• An activity where the groups swaps
over from dinghies to SUPs• An end of session activity for half an
hour• A “warm up” activity at the beginning
of a session.
We have 3 SUPs and 3 WindSUPs

Power Boat Experience:
Try to find a local destination that is interesting.
Take them out on a day when it is too windy to sail to experience the conditions.
Children of 12 can get a restricted license – you can let them drive under supervision.

We ran two groups as “bring a friend” programs in the January school holidays.
Three day (5 hours) program.
Included:• Sailing• Windsurfing• Power boat experience• Stand Up Paddle Boarding
Primary aim was FUN.
• Good sailing experience for new participants
• Outside Club SUP Instructor• Lunch included – (social
interaction)

We used RS Fevas and Pacers – participants were paired as a competent sailor with someone new to sailing (their friend).
