OUTDOOR EDUCATION "We believe every child and young person should

KIT LIST Suitable clothing- layers are best for warmth! General rule of

thumb PLENTY OF OLD CLOTHING. Nightwear (teddy?) SLEEPING BAG/PILLOW Waterproof jacket/trousers Toiletries including TOWEL Torch Lunch box/drinks container- YOUR CHILD WILL NEED A

PACKED LUNCH ON THE FIRST DAY. Mug for bedtime drink. Medication Bin liner for dirty/wet clothes. Small rucksack for day use? Disposable camera maybe a good idea.

THE SITE 2 tented villages- sleeping 6-8 per

tent. Another school will be on site when

we are. THERE WILL BE A SECURITY

GUARD ON FROM 11PM-7AM MAIN GATE IS SHUT AT NIGHT All buildings are illuminated at night

i.e. Toilet block.

CATERING Breakfast 8 o’clock. Children will need packed lunch for the

first day. A packed lunch will be provided for the

second day. Evening meal between 5.30-6.30 Staff and children are expected to help

serve and clean up! BEDTIME Centre rule is that children

must be in bed by 10.30.

Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre

Outdoor Education Centres The Outdoor Education Centres are managed by

Cornwall Outdoors, Cornwall County Council. Within the County, Cornwall Outdoors operates

seven residential Centres (two of which are all canvas):Carnyorth Delaware Pelistry CampPorthpean Roseland Tamar Tehidy Woods Camp

All the Centres offer excellent equipment and qualified instructors provide opportunities for developing a wide range of skills in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Provision is made at all the Centres for accessibility including access for wheelchair users to changing rooms, showers and toilets.

Porthpean site …

The Centre is situated just outside of St Austell and enjoys spectacular views over the sea and local countryside. Sleeping accommodation consists of large canvas tents.

The camping element is supported by a range of permanent buildings including a centrally heated dining hall, staff lounge, toilet and shower blocks, and drying room.

Porthpean site… Tents are arranged in ‘villages’ to

accommodate a maximum of 32 children and up to 4 leaders.

There are 5 villages. Each village has 7 tents and 1 wooden cabin

(sleeps 2). The cabin is lockable and is for leaders’ use

only. All the tents are floor boarded and the centre

provides a vinyl foam mattress on which to sleep.

All visitors must bring their own sleeping bags and pillows.

Porthpean site (continued) It is possible to

accommodate slightly bigger groups but please note that this could affect the activity days.

Group leaders are responsible for the tidiness of their village and for the children’s behaviour at all times of the day and night.

Staff … We specialise in outdoor

and adventurous activities and our experienced instructors have an excellent reputation for delivering safe and enjoyable activity sessions at all levels, from simple ‘tasters’ for beginners up to instructor training and assessments in most aspects of canoe sport, moorland walking and climbing.
