Dear Family,
At the time of Jesus, and as sometimes happens today, people mistake the good or bad fortune of others to indicate their rela-
tionship with God. If a person is doing well in their business or trade and their family is healthy, they are believed to be
loved by God. If not doing so well and/or plagued by tragedies, then they are supposedly cut off from God’s good favor. Je-
sus addresses this today as people are bringing him examples of people who met their fates by disaster or political oppres-
sion. His response to these reports is that these people do not carry any less favor in God’s eyes than anyone else! And to
follow up, he makes it clear to them that when we remain unrepentant, we can end up meeting a similar fate. This shows Je-
sus to be a good parent, as he makes it clear that He does not play favorites and that it is primarily His job to judge people’s
hearts, not ours. We are all on a level playing field with God, the Just Judge, who does not look at externals alone but sees us
as we truly are in the midst of our lives and with the contents of our hearts. As we mark the beginning of this, the third week
of our Lenten journey, let us seek to make changes that will affect us deep within, changes that turn our attention toward the
necessary selfwork to be more Christlike and away from being so obsessed with others. We have this life to live, none oth-
er, so let’s make it count by being sure where we stand with God as He continues to purify our senses, intentions, rela-
tionships and hearts. God bless you, my dearest family.
In His joy, Fr. Daniel

her tomentors and her family’s murderers. She will bring this message of
forgiveness and the power of the Rosary to Los Alamos.”
