Dear Parents and guardians,
I am pleased to announce that recently Osceola has accepted a
mosaic from Manila Clough. Ms. Clough has created four mosaics
that have been given to four of elementary schools in St. Johns
County. Mrs. Clough previously, created four murals for our
district in recent years including murals for Crookshank, Palencia
and Hartley elementary schools. Most recently she created a mural
that now hangs in the lower lobby of 40 Orange. The work that
we have received is based on the Florida Pelican. It is a beautiful
piece of art that hangs in our front hallway. We are very
appreciative to be given this piece of art.
Have you had a chance to meet our new Cafeteria Manager? Carole
Simmons started with us in April 2019. She comes to us from
Creekside High School where she was an assistant manager. We
are very fortunate to have her here with us. Her goal for our school
is to bring some diversity to the lunch menu. She began just a few
weeks ago with a “Cool Box” lunch option. The “Cool Lunch”
consists of: yogurt, fresh apple slices, raw carrots, lite ranch
dressing, and graham crackers. The nutritional value of this lunch
is comparable to the other lunch options that are available for
students. Ms. Simmons knows that many of our students have
different preferences for lunches. This allows for students to make
choices in their daily lives that are very personal to them. If, as
their parent, you do not want your child to choose this lunch
option, please contact Ms. Simmons in the cafeteria. She will make
a note on their account that they are not to make that choice.
I would like to congratulate Haylie Butler for representing our
school during the District Spelling Bee on Wednesday, December
4th. Haylie competed with 46 other students in grades 5th through
8th. Haylie competed through the eighth round. At that time she
was one of five other students in the competition. I am so
incredibly proud of Haylie’s determination and grit during this
competition but what might make me even prouder is the way in
which she handled herself afterward. Haylie and her parents
stayed until the end of the Spelling Bee and at the end of the event,
when she noticed the runner up was very emotional, she went to
the student and offered her support and a hug. Haylie teaches us
that even in competition, treating each other with love and respect
is always the best way! Thank you Haylie for always setting the
example of the Six Pillars of Character.
I hope that you enjoy the week and have an opportunity to make
lasting memories with your children.
Sincerely,
Tina P. Waldrop

School Visitation Update
This is just a reminder that anyone who enters our school (parent, guardian, friend, neighbor, aunt, uncle, grandparents) must have school access to attend an event at Osceola. This includes having lunch with a
student, volunteering in classrooms, attend an awards assembly, field trips, conferences..etc. If you have not already done so, please complete the School Access
Form. The process for approval may take 4 to 6 weeks, so please fill out the application sooner than later for
any guests that would like to have school access. Once the application is approved, school access will
be valid for three years.
If you’re not sure if you are cleared, please contact Sheila Lawshe at 904-547-3780
District policy: “Any person passing beyond the front office area must
show a valid driver’s license or state identification card.”
Please make sure to bring your identification with you when entering
our school to go beyond the front desk or pick-up a child.
