Orientation Program for the New Batch of Students
Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad organised orientation programme from 2nd
to 7th
July 2018 to introduce
the new batch of students to campus life and future prospects.
Day 1: Session 1
The commencement of the induction programme of the new batch (2018-2023) was graced by Honorable
Justice Nooty Ramamohana Rao (Retd.), Justice Madras High Court & High Court of Judicature at
Hyderabad as the Chief Guest and Mr. Sam Freeman, Lead India, Queensland Skills & Education,
Consortium, Australia as the Guest of Honour.
The Guest of Honour, Mr. Sam Freeman, asked the students to utilize the resources available on the campus
and enhance their analytical and critical thinking skills to become able and efficient lawyers. He spoke about
the wide range of opportunities available to the law students.

The Chief Guest, Honorable Justice N. Ramamohana addressed the new batch and conveyed a message that
learning is a process and we are all learners till the end. He urged the students to see moral values as an
integral part of professional life. One does not need to be after material things because professional
satisfaction is a precious thing to cherish. He also appealed to the students to integrate and inculcate the
research skills in Law which is an essential component and a vital requirement to be cohesive in and as a
society.
The inaugural function concluded by the Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Prageetha G Raju, Associate

Professor, SLSH followed by National Anthem.
Session 2
The second session started with the presentation by various bodies functioning in the law school.
International Cell
Dr. Rengasamy Stalin, Assistant Professor & Faculty
in-charge, International Cell along with his team
shared the need and importance of the cell and gave
the insights of its functioning.
Training &
Placement Cell
Mr. Vidyadhar Raghavan, Officer, Placement and
Corporate Relations and his team introduced the
procedures and the need for Training & Placement
Cell. They shared the importance and the role of
internships for law students to build their careers.
Moot Court Association
Ms. Ambrina, Assistant Professor & Faculty In-
Charge, and student team members gave a
presentation on the vision and mission of the moot
court association and its great achievements.

Campus Discipline and Facilities
Lt. Col. Patil, Campus Administrator, Symbiosis Hyderabad Campus spoke about the Campus Discipline and
Facilities. He introduced his entire symbiosis society team and their functions. He also shared that campus
discipline needs to be adhered strictly, if not severe repercussions shall be faced.
Day 2: July 03, 2018
Session 1:
Centre For Specialization in
Business Innovation (CSBI)
Dr. Prageetha G Raju, Associate Professor& Faculty in-
charge, CSBI along with her team of students presented
the modus operandi of their cell. They also submitted a
detailed report of the activities of the cells and plans for
the current year.
Learning Resources: Library and Computer Lab
Mr.Shree Rahul, Assistant Professor& In-charge spoke about
the books available and online resources for both academic and
research purpose available in the library.
Dr. Pooja Rhine, Assistant Professor &
Faculty-in-charge and Ms. Monica
Bhadoria, Academic Coordinator, Cultural
Committee, along with its President,
Siddhanth Jhamb, and his team highlighted
the functioning of the cell and the activities
which took place and their future plans.
They shared the insights of the 1st cultural
fest ‘SYMINARET’ which was organized
on the campus.
Cultural Cell
Dr. Prageetha G Raju, Associate Professor& Faculty in-charge,
of Research & Publication Cell spoke about the importance of
the cell and in-house journals available to the students. She
urged the students to make use of the resources available to
enrich their writing abilities and research skills. She also
highlighted INCUBATOR – an in-house student magazine
whose objective is to inculcate writing ability amongst students.
The cell urged the new students to research and write articles for
INCUBATOR which can be shown to the Corporate to secure
good Internships and subsequently, good placements.

Grievances Redressal Cell Dr.Prageetha G Raju, Associate Professor & Chair Person, Grievance Redressal
Cell counselled the students about the redressal mechanism and also warned the students not to resort to
unfair means.
Centre For Intellectual Property Research and Advocacy
Mr.AhmarAfaq, Assistant Professor and Faculty-in-charge, CIPRA and his team presented the overview of
their centre and the growing importance of IPR.
Centre for Human Rights
Mr. Ahmar Afaq, Assistant Professor and Faculty-in-charge, Centre for Human Rights and his team of
student representatives shared insights about their centre.
Sports Cell
Mr. Ahmar Afaq, Assistant Professor & Faculty in-charge, Sports Cell. The team to inculcate the importance
of sports and fitness, the Cell members gave an overview of the cells.
Legal Aid Centre Dr. B Anuradha, Associate Professor and Faculty-in-charge, Legal Aid Centre and the
student representatives spoke about the activities which took place under the centre.
Website PR Media Cell- Mr.Sathish Kotha, Lab Instructor and Faculty Incharge and his team spoke about the
cell.
Session 2
Student Council
Centre For Policy Drafting And International Understanding- Mr.Shree Rahul, Assistant
Professor and Faculty in-charge, Centre for Policy Drafting and International
Understanding. The Centre for Policy Drafting and International Understanding (CPDIU)
was established with the objective of helping students understand the process of policy
making. Since the legislative process begins with the formulation of policy, the activities of
the Centre are of particular relevance to the law school’s curriculum. Following their engagement with Centre, students perceive the law as not just a written, rigid text- but as a
codification of many disciplines.

Student Council of SLSH, spoke about the
constitution of the 1st Student Council of SLSH
and various bodies and Committees working
under it.
Centre for Specialization in Performing Arts- Mr. Akshay Jain: spoke about the importance and the
objective of the centre.Centre for Rights of Differently abled- Mr. Akshay Jain and Rishabh Gaurav said that
the centre aims to work on disability rights and for persons with disabilities.
Centre for specialization of Cyber Law Studies Mr. Sowryan Bhattacharye spoke about the objective of the
centre and said that its main objective is to inculcate a culture of social change through technology and to
understand research activities to solve cyber legal issues.

Policy- Khanjan Sowmya and

International Law Advancement Centre (ILAC)- Mr. Pankaj Umbarkar, Assistant Professor and Faculty-
in-charge of ILAC along with his team spoke about the aim and objective of the centre and gave an insight of
the events conducted and their upcoming events.
Day 3: 04 July 2018
Session 1:
Alternative Disputes Resolution Cell

The importance of Legal Database and the
process/procedure to get reliable and authentic
data was explained by the executive of Lexis
Nexis.
Mr. Srinivas Methuku, Asst. Professor & Examination In-Charge made students get acquainted with the
Dr. Srinivas Bandameedi, Asst. Professor and Faculty In-charge of
Debate and Literary Cell along with his student team members
presented the activities of the cell. He explained how the
participation in extracurricular activities like debate and literary
activities would help the students to improve their communication
and thinking skills thus contributing to overall personality
development.

Examination pattern, and evaluation at SIU, SLS H. In detail CGPA process, internal and external
examinations were explained to students.

Cell gave a brief description of the cell and
its importance in today world and the kind of
work which were undertaken by the cell since
its inception.
Session 2-

Day 4: 05th
July 2018
Session 1
Workshop on “Gender Sensitization” on 5th
July 2018
Gender Sensitization refers to modification or change of behaviour by raising awareness of gender equality
concerns. Gender is a socially learnt behaviour based on social expectations form men and women. It varies
across the world. A “stereotype” is a thought process which allows one to make a judgement based on the
immediately visible characteristics like gender, race or age.
Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad organized a one-day workshop on “Gender Sensitization with special

reference to Women” on 5th
July 2018 as a part of the Induction programme for the students of the batch
2018-2023. Resources persons called for the workshop were – Prof. Dr. Rekha Pande, Professor and Director
of Centre for Women’s Studies, Central University of Hyderabad and Special Correspondent of The Hindu,
Nikhila Henry. They provided insight to our students on the concept of Gender Sensitization. Dr.Rekha Pande
sensitized the students about the development of sensitivity towards women in the context of historical
development and the importance of the role of women in the development of society. While Nilkhila Henry
spoke about the necessity of gender equality in the workplace. This workshop helped the students understand
and stand by the idea of Gender sensitization.
Session 2
Workshop on “Research Methodology”
The second half of the day was dedicated to Research and methodology to give the students an overview of
how important is it to carry out research and what are the various methodologies that are followed in carrying
out the research work. One of the resource person Prof.Dr. Rekha Pande, Director of Centre for Women’s
Studies at the Central University of Hyderabad, spoke about how to choose a topic for the research and what
are the various methodologies that are followed for the research. Her primary focus remained on how the
research was carried out using various methodologies across various disciplines in Social Sciences and more
specifically in Women’s studies. An eminent faculty of The English and Foreign Language University
(EFLU), Dr.Prakash Kona, was the second resources person on “Research Methodology”. He provided the
students of the new batch 2018-2023 with an insight into the research and methodologies that are used in
Humanities with special reference to English and Literature.
The day also saw the inauguration of “AWAAZ” student-run in-house broadsheet that aims to provide a
platform for showcasing the voice of the students and faculties alike. This is a broadsheet which is a quarterly
and showcases various ideas and views of the students.

Day 5: 06 July 2018
The new batch students were taken on an Outbound Activity to Dholari Dhani, Kompally. They were
accompanied by a few senior students, AO, and a few coordinators of SLS H.

Day 6:
The Valedictory session of the Orientation Program was graced by Prof. E. Suresh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor,
The English and Foreign Languages University as the Chief Guest. Speaking on occasion, Professor Suresh
Kumar emphasized the beauty of the English language and said that language and communication form an
integral part. Mr. Sampath Bulusu, General Manager- Legal, Shell Hazira, Ahmedabad, an alumnus of SIU
and SLS H, was the Guest of Honour. He interacted with the students and enlightened them with his exposure
in the field.
Certificates of Merit awarded to the students by the Examination Department and Moot Court Association
were given by the Chief Guest, and he congratulated the students for their achievement.
The Valedictory ceremony ended with Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Srinivas Bandameedi followed by
National Anthem.

Alternative Dispute Resolution Drive on SLS-Hyderabad Campus
Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR) organized Alternative Dispute Resolution Drive ADR
awareness drive with the objectives of spreading awareness in ADR mechanisms. Prof. Deepu Krishnan
(St.Xavier Alumnus, NILU Alumnus, Legum Magister(Gold Medalist) Corporate Lawyer, CLAT Coach,
Philanthropist, Social Researcher, Entrepreneur, Author, and Professor) was invited as the speaker. As the
part of this three-day program multiple activities: Just A Minute (JAM) on 12th

AMBIENTE- Photography Competition
On 9th
July 2018, a photography competition –Ambiente, was conducted to try and reminisce the mesmerizing
quality nature had and captured this enchanting element in the form of pictures. The competition was mainly
conducted to appreciate the beauty of nature and also the outlook of the person capturing it in his lens with his
photography skills.

Training Session for Mediation and Client Counselling by Mr. Nisshant Laroia
Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR) conducted a training session by Mr. Nisshant
Laroia, a partner at The PACT and is an Accredited Mediator at Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs
and IICA Indian Institute of Arbitration and Mediation on 28th and 29th July 2018.

A Guest Lecture on Competition Law
Guest Lectures on Intellectual Property Rights, and Domain Name Trademarks by Mr. Gokul
Narayan, Head Marketing, Asian School, Cyber Laws
A guest lecture was organized on Intellectual Property Rights on 24th
July 2018. The Guest Lecture focused
on giving a practical perspective to the students on the area of Intellectual Property Rights. The basic
overview of different kinds of intellectual property rights was given, and live examples of each type of IPR
were explained. The idea-expression dichotomy in the Copyright was portrayed to the students.

Guest Lecture on Privacy and the Law by Dr. Usha Ramanathan
The lecture focused on the importance of privacy and how State-sponsored surveillance takes place. For the
ease of understanding, the lecture progressed by explaining the history and then the current situation of
privacy concerns.

Training and Placement Cell organized A Guest Lecture on Intersection of Law and Technology
A Guest Lecture on Intersection of Law and Technology was organized by Training and Placement Cell,
Mr.GV Anand Bhushan, Head of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, Chennai was invited as the speaker.
The lecture was based on the topic of “Intersection of Law and Technology”, throughout the lecture, Mr.
Anand Bhushan this lecture emphasised on the importance of the need to create design law and also how 3D
printing can substitute the human labour in the 21st Century. Data Protection is a very crucial topic in the
course of Information Technology Law; therefore, the lecture thoroughly emphasised how vulnerable the data
of the common. On the later stage of the lecture, he further discussed the trending link between Intellectual
Property Rights and Technology.
Justice A. Rajasekhar Reddy Inaugurates Centre for Human Rights on SLS Hyderabad
Honourable Justice A. Rajasekhar Reddy, Judge of the High Court of Judicature Hyderabad as the chief guest
and Ms. G. Rosy, founder Sankalp Foundation as the Guest of Honour inaugurated Centre for Human
Rights on SLS Hyderabad Campus on 14th
July 2018.
The Officiating Director, Dr. Sukhvinder Singh Dari made the welcome speech, while Head of the Centre for
Human Rights, Mr. Ahmar Afaq, Assistant Professor, explained the objectives of the cell. The chief guest
and the guest of honour addressed the huge student gathering.

Mic Drop: An Open Mic Event was organized by Literary and Debate Cell
The Literary and Debate Cell of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad conducted an event on 13th of July 2018.
The event, open mic, was named as 'mic drop. On the various social issues, students recited poetry, enacted
monologues, and satirized the social evils in the Stand-up Comedy in Hindi and English languages.

The Moot Court Association through its faculty cum student’s body organises a 3 tier Moot Orientation

One Day Lecture Series on the Future Prospects of Indian Law Graduates in the UAE
In the one-day lecture series Mr P. K. Abdul Raheem (Partner- ARG Law Partners & Associate
Mohamed Aleghfeli Advocates & Legal Consultants, United Arab Emirates), Addressed the student
gathering and shared insights with the budding lawyers about upcoming and ongoing opportunities in the
UAE along with the importance of commercial international arbitration.
Peer to Peer Discussion (P2P) on Left and Right: Politicking Economics
The first session of the second edition of the Peer to Peer sessions by the Centre for Specialisation in Business
and Innovation was conducted on the 11th
of July, 2018. The session was conducted through the format of a
panel discussion, and revolved around the theme of “Left v. Right: Politicking Economics”.

Analytica
The second session of the Peer to Peer sessions by the Centre for Specialisation in Business and Innovation
was conducted on the 25th

the format of an informal talk and revolved around the theme of “Artificial Intelligence: With Specific
Reference to Cambridge Analytica”.

Environmental Law Clinic Organises Plantation Drive
On 9TH
July 2018, Environmental Law Clinic organized plantation drive for the batch of 2018- 2023 in the
open ground near SCHC in Symbiosis Law School Hyderabad. As part of the program, every division was
given a sapling to plant. Environmental Law Clinic is of the firm opinion that the saplings planted by the
students will enable their emotional bondage with campus and environment. This occasion was graced by the
officiating Director, Dr. Sukhvinder Singh Dari, Faculty and students.

Guest Lecture Series by Training and Placement Cell
Ms Persis Hodiwalla & Mr Persie Jalgaonwala were invited to deliver guest lectures to the students of SLS
Hyderabad on 28th
and 29th
July 2018.
The lecture was spread over a span of 2 days primarily dealt with the Facets of Media and Entertainment Law.
Various aspects including the protection of intellectual property, the requirements for creating a
website/visual effects etc. were discussed in detail.

Workshop on “Impact of Industrialization in Rural Areas”
The speaker for the workshop was Dr. Sujatha Surepally, a renowned environmental activist and academician.
She currently works as the H.O.D of the University College of Arts, Social Science and Commerce with the
Satavahana University, Karimnagar. Dr. Sujatha Surepally spoke on how the concept of sustainable
development is remaining as a myth and how this approach is going to hurt us in the long run.

Workshop on Creative Writing
The Literary and Debate Cell of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad organised a creative writing workshop on
13th of July'2018, for the students of all the batches. The Guest of Honour for the event was Professor V.
Sudhakar from The English and Foreign Languages University.
Professor V. Sudhakar dealt with the concept of creative writing as an art of mind and food for the soul. He
dealt with various sub-themes of what actually makes a person be creative in his/her own space and express
his thoughts without a glitch of the doubt. He referred to great authors like Sigmund Freud, Agatha Christie in
inculcating the vibe of the literature and the emotion of one in expressing the thoughts.

Writing Competition by Literary and Debate Cell
The Literary and Debate cell of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad conducted Writing
competition on 11.08.2018 in three genres, i.e., poetry, essays and short stories. Winners of these
competitions were prizes on 13.08.2018 by Prof. V.Sudhakar, The English and Foreign
Languages University.
