Things to see and doWalking

Dr David Ashton Walk – 200m, gentle hillWalk up to the lookout and see the amazing view of the reservoir and surrounding hillside. View Dr David Ashton’s plaque that recognises his outstanding contribution to better understanding the mountain ash.

Lily Pond Walk – 600m, circuitWander along and explore the story of the value of water and how it is vital to life.

Picnics and group gatheringsWith large grassy open spaces for children to play, wooded areas to explore and generous facilities, this is a perfect place to gather.

Bushfire MemorialA peaceful memorial of remembrance on the edge of the lily pond is dedicated to the community members from Whittlesea and surrounds whose lives were lost in the bushfires on 7 February 2009 – Black Saturday.

Yarn CircleUsing heritage bluestone and granite blocks from the original dam wall, the Yarn Circle is a unique place where family, friends and community groups can share stories and tell a yarn.

Reservoir WallRebuilt in 2012 to meet national safety standards, the wall not only holds back the water, it also tells the stories. Take a walk along the wall to learn more about the reservoir, the park and its history.

RotundaThe heritage rotunda located at the entrance carpark is the only structure to survive the 2009 bushfires. It has been restored and now provides information about those fires, community recollections on how the park was before the fires and other park information.

FacilitiesToorourrong Reservoir Park has many picnic areas available with shelters, picnic tables and electric and wood barbecues (you need to bring your own wood). You can also bring your own portable barbecue – please use the disposal unit provided to dispose of coal and heat beads.Car parking is provided 280m from the picnic area and toilet facilities.All abilities access is provided throughout the park, including accessible toilets and an all abilities access ramp from the main carpark.There are no rubbish bins in the park, so please take your rubbish with you.

Be prepared and stay safeVisitors are requested to observe the park speed limit as Eastern Grey Kangaroos frequent the park.In an event of emergency dial 000.Toorourrong Reservior Park is in the Central Fire District. Bushfire safety is a personal responsibility. Anyone entering parks and forests during the bushfire season needs to stay aware of forecast weather conditions. Check the Fire Danger Rating and for days of Total Fire Ban at www.cfa.vic.gov.au or call the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226. No fires may be lit on Total Fire Ban days. On Code Red Fire Danger Rating days this park will be closed for public safety. Closure signs will be erected but do not expect an official warning. Check the latest conditions at www.parks.vic.gov.au or by calling 13 1963. For emergency assistance call Triple Zero (000). If there is a green emergency marker sign near you, read the information on the marker to the operator.
