OICW System Enhancements STO III.WP.2000.01
Specific Goal:• Design, Build and Demonstrate Prototype Micro-Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) based Safe & Arm (S&A) Devices to Include Micro-scale Firetrain (MSF)
Why?• Cost for the OICW projectile is high. The S&A contributes significantly to the cost.
• Large fuze (small payload) limits terminal effects
Payoff:• Reduced cost –50% over traditional S&A • Increased lethality and survivability – 75% S&A volume reduction• Enabling MEMS technology facilitates fielding of OICW and OCSW
