Offside Q&A
You have completed the Law XI Q&A.
We hope this helps you better
interpret the Offside Law.

Offside Q&A
It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position.
A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one
of his/her team, he/she is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in active play by:
• interfering with play• interfering with an opponent• gaining an advantage by being in that
position Return

Offside Position vs. Infraction
It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position.
A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one
of his/her team, he/she is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in active play by:
• interfering with play• interfering with an opponent• gaining an advantage by being in that
position
So what’s the answer?
Neither “A” nor “B” should be penalised for offside.
Although “B” is now in an offside position, he/she should not be penalised unless he/she becomes involved in active play.
Let’s see what happens next.
