In the Loop
Welcome to Term 6 We are already at the end of our second week of term. I know you will join with me in welcoming Miss Cousins back to school, she has returned this term from her maternity leave and will be working with
the year 1 classes for two days per week.
Last week our year 4 children went to Kew Gardens in London to find out about the rainforests. Please see page 5 for pictures of their trip. Shannon in year 4 wrote to the David Cameron regarding her concerns about the rainforest and was very excited to get a reply from his offices at 10 Downing Street. Well
done Shannon.
On Friday 10th June our year 5 pupils took part in the ‘Hastings Thrives’ Sky Parade. The aim of the parade was to celebrate the aspirations, achievement and sheer brilliance of the children of Hastings and St Leonards. Please see page 4 for
pictures of the event.
Please remember to take a look at the dates page for events taking place this term. More information will follow for sports
day. I look forward to seeing you all at events this term.
DUCK NEWS!
We are pleased to announce that we have had our first egg this week. The reception children were
very excited by this news.
The ducks love visitors but can we ask that you do not go inside their
enclosure as they become distressed.
This term we are exploring the value of ‘Responsibility’. The Bible teaches us that life is a gift from God and it is our responsibility to use our talents and abilities to do the best we can.
Over this term we will be exploring how we can be responsible. If you have any examples of how your child/children have demonstrated this value please let us know so that we can celebrate this at school.

Sports Clubs
Mr Ray has been busy offering places to children
who sent their slips back to join one of his clubs. By
now you will have received a text to confirm your
child’s place. If you have not received a text, but you
feel that your slip was handed in on time, please do
check with the office. It could be that the club is full,
and your child will have been placed on to a waiting
list.
Please ensure you are here to collect your child at
4.20pm on their club day, collection is from outside
the main office.

On Thursday afternoon Year 3
and 4 were invited to attend a
sports event at St. Leonards
Academy. The event was run
entirely by Year 10 students as
part of their Sports Leader
Award. The afternoon was
very well organised and the
children thoroughly enjoyed
the range of activities they got
to take part in.
Sky Parade
Hastings Thrives
All schools across Hastings and St Leonards are working together to ensure positive
outcomes for all children.
A variety of events have taken place across this academic
year for both staff and pupils. This has included Maths projects, song contests,
Thrive training for staff and culminating in the ‘Sky
Parade’.
We were very proud to take
part.
We are encouraging children to have high aspirations of themselves, “Don’t tell me
the sky’s the limit, when there
are footprints on the moon!”
“Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit, when there are footprints on the moon!”
Year 4 visit Kew Gardens
Last week the children in Year 4 went on an educational visit to Kew Gardens. After a very
early start and a long journey they arrived to fantastic sunshine. During the morning they were able
experience the tropical feel of a rainforest inside the rather warm greenhouses. After lunch those
that were brave enough got a chance to see the great view of London from the top of the treetop
walk. The children will now be able to use their experience in all curriculum areas during the rest of
term. We would like to thank the parents who supported on the trip, it was much appreciated.

Amazing Achievements
I entered a dance festival and earned my medal by
doing a ‘Ballet Dance’ and a ‘Greek Dance’. I had to have
an audition and I was very nervous! In the end I felt
relieved and proud that I won. It was very tough!!
Molly
Y3 Dolphins Class
Isaac wrote a letter to Miss Burges all by himself. He was letting her know that the ducks had eaten all of the tomatoes. Well done Isaac, fabulous
independent writing.
Alfie made himself a training clock to help him learn how to tell the time. Well done Alfie! Amazing
work.
Curtis (Y3) passed his black belt grade and is now a 1st
Dan black belt in karate.
He has been doing karate with Sama Karate since
reception at St Leonards CE and trains 5 times a week.
Over the weekend his family travelled to Worthing and Curtis aged just 8 years old had to undertake a 2 hour grade in the presence of
senior karate instructors and was awarded his black belt by
8th Dan Hanshi Alan Gibson.
His parents are very proud of Curtis who is following in his brother Lewis's footsteps who achieved his black belt
at the age of 9 and again started karate in reception at
St Leonards CE.
Well done Curtis!
Hannah (Y3) has been awarded this
certificate which reads:
‘Hannah has successfully completed a PGL Adventure Course and in doing so
has shown ability to plan, practise, perform and complete tasks, both as
an individual and as part of a team.’
Well done Hannah!

Above is a photograph, a certificate and insert from a programme sent in from Frankie Whitewood in Jellyfish class.
Earlier this year, she along with Grace (Y5) and Leyla (Y3) appeared in Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs at The Stables
Theatre, each taking on a role of a one of the dwarfs! We are so proud of them for all of their hard work rehearsing for their
parts.
All three children received a 100% pass mark in all their dance and drama examinations. They also went on to participate in
the Hastings Music Festival, as well as performing to a local Rest Home, enjoying a cup of tea and cakes, while chatting to some
of the residents.
Well done!
Amazing Talent!
Page 9 FOUR LEAF CLOVER DISCOVERY!
Leyla (Y3) went searching on our field and found a four leaf clover! Leyla has learnt in class that the four leaf
clover is the only leaf that doesn’t follow the Fibonacci rule.
We hope this brings you lots of luck Leyla!
This is another polite reminder about parking in the surrounding roads. We are still receiving phone calls from neighbours, saying that there
are cars parked over their drives, and in addition there are reports of littering-cigarette butts, and baby wipes! Please make sure you
take any rubbish with you. We have given our neighbours procedures on
reporting vehicles should this continue. In addition, you are not permitted to park on the zig zag lines, even for a few minutes, please
do not verbally abuse our members of staff
who are there to remind you of this.

Summer Fair - donations of gifts/vouchers
The PTA would like to ask if you or anyone you know has a business they would like to advertise? It would be a
fantastic idea if we could add a voucher or prize to our raffle or ‘Prize Tree’. Not only would this help to draw attention to your
business, but you would be helping our
school generously.
Please speak to Mrs Ward in the office if you are able to help or you would like
more information.
Thank you
