Microscope Magnification• The ocular lens has a magnification of 10x• The objective lenses have magnifications of:
– Low: 4x– Medium: 10x– High: 40x
• To find the total magnification: Ocular lens x Objective lens– Example: ocular lens x high power = total magnification
10 x 40 = 400 (total magnification)
How to Carry a Microscope
• ALWAYS carry with the ARM and BASE
REMINDERS
• REMEMBER: All specimens must be thin for LIGHT to shine through them, otherwise they cannot be viewed clearly.
• REMEMBER: DO NOT use the COARSE adjustment knob when focusing on medium and high power objectives!! This could damage the objective and possibly break the slides and cover slips. If you cannot get it in focus, you should use the FINE ADJUSTMENT KNOB.
