Phew the me seems to be flying along! Yet the transi on from sum-
mer to fall seems to be meandering along at a slow pace, the nights
seem a li le cooler, but the leaves are hanging onto their green and on-
ly a few are gently changing to the brilliant reds, oranges and yellows
that I love so much. I am sure as we reach the end of October the scen-
ery will be different. I have heard reports that snow is star ng to fall in
the higher eleva ons, and the geese are in abundance flying overhead
in their V forma ons. They have a flight path on my commute so each
day I am blessed with their grace and beauty as they fly above me. It
always awes me that they can stay in forma on, and I o en wonder if
humans could do the same without a leader on the sidelines telling
them who go first. The birds seem to automa cally take turns, dropping
back seamlessly as the next one comes to take the lead. That is com-
munity working together at its finest. Did you know that if a goose be-
comes sick or injured while on the migra on flight another bird will stay
back with it un l it is able to con nue or it dies? With the latest
“Occupy” groups in the news, perhaps we are forming V’s of our own.
Coming together, suppor ng each other, and hoping to affect a differ-
ence.
Nourish would love to hear from you! If you would like to make a com-ment please email us at nourishpublicaiton@gmail.com . Nourish will have a website by the me the next issue arrives! If you send me your email address I will advise when it is up and running. Blessings for the month ahead!

“Your me is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other peo-ple’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s
opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your
heart and intui on. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Every-
thing else is secondary.”

I walk past you nearly every day
And Oh! The changes I’ve seen!
I first no ced her in the spring
Ground freshly dug, soil in rich black clumps
(It was raining then…)
Looking so full of promise. I thought of all the delights
that would soon fill this pregnant space.
Late spring grew into summer,
and the garden grew.
I glanced at the greenery that filled the rest –
But that middle space – I had eyes only for that middle space -
that stayed disappoin ngly austere.
Small green plants, staked, and so much space between
I thought with scorn and irrita on of the hapless gardener
Toiling in such fu lity.
Summer … wet and warm - and s ll only greenery
fuller now, but s ll…
so sad, tucked as it was midst
other yards full of splendid colour
Patronizing, I imagined the gardener admi ng defeat.
Already I was looking forward to the beau ful colours that would surely
replace boring green next year.
(couldn’t even see a vegetable or a fruit – which
would have redeemed the space with usefulness)
Then, I was gone for 10 days,
and when I came back through the alley
I stopped, mouth open in surprise and delight.
For while all around her
other gardens stood faded in the fall,
This garden shouted colour and beauty,
Filling my eyes and all the space around
with glorious texture, stunning shades
of pink and red and gold and more!
For weeks the garden stood in defiance of cold weather,
trumpe ng that the best things in life
o en come late
And are even more wonderful because of that.
The garden sits, now, wai ng.
Soil turned, lying rich and black
(It’s been raining….)
Stakes in place, ready for the tender shoots
That will soon begin the long, slow, inevitable journey to the light.
Thank you, gardener
For this wonderful gi !

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the be er claim Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference

OBSERVING THE SEASON By Marlene Cobb
Fall is upon us, the air is ge ng cooler, the leaves
are changing colors and gently dropping to the ground
and pumpkins are gracing us with their vibrant oranges. I
love the changing of the seasons, and with each season
comes some observa ons that we make collec vely. No
ma er what na onality you are, if you live in Canada,
most likely you observe Thanksgiving on the second Mon-
day of October (this year it falls on October 10th), Hallow-
een on the 31st of October, and Remembrance Day on
November 11th.
Thanksgiving allows us to spend me with family and
friends, to feast on scrump-
ous turkey slow cooked all
day, and slowly savoring the
spicy sweet taste of pump-
kin pie with whipped
cream. Tradi onally
Thanksgiving was a me to
gather and give thanks for
the boun ful harvest just
brought in. Most of us harvest our food at the local gro-
cery store now so that has been replaced by giving thanks
for that which we are grateful for. I have been hearing
the key phrase “a tude of gra tude” bantered around a
lot not only by spiritual people but also in mainstream
adver sing. It makes me stop and reflect each me I hear
it, of 5 things I am grateful for. Most Thanksgivings I ask
around the table, to the discomfort of my dinner guests,
what they are thankful for. I would love for the phrase
“a tude of gra tude” to become more of a daily thing
and not just something we do one day a year on Thanks-
giving.
Halloween allows the child in us to come
out and play. The costumes that one can
choose from are endless! Every person has
an inner persona that for one day they can
be. Host a party at home or go out with
friends. It seems that this is one observa-
on that you either love or hate. Children
of course love it! They get to dress up and run around
trick or trea ng which means candy to last a few days,
weeks or months, usually this is done in the dark so that
adds a level to it. Schools allow children to come dressed
up which makes this a fun day even while doing lessons.
Personally I love to carve pumpkins. The more elaborate
the design the be er. I also love dressing up for the day,
although I don’t tend to know what I want to be and that
creates problems in finding a costume. More importantly
I love seeing children enjoy the day.
Remembrance Day can be a
somber day. Especially for fami-
lies who have lost loved ones in
any of the wars that have gone
by or are currently being waged
in the world. I a end the service
to honor my grandfather who
fought in both WW1 and WW2 and for all those who con-
nue to sign up for duty to keep our country free and
safe. They are the brave ones. I honor them and cele-
brate the lives of those fallen o en in strange country’s
far from home. It is a show of respect that I proudly wear
a poppy.
Fall o en scurries in with the hustle and bustle of
the last day of summer, and then slowly winds down as
the days get shorter. As fall embraces us get out and em-
brace the beauty of what it is. Go kick some leaves, carve
a pumpkin, take long walks in the cooler air and refresh
your soul. Enjoy a la e, take stock of what you have har-
vested in your life, and just be in the magnificence of
now. All too soon the season will change and we will
have new things to observe.

Oregano is one of those oils that can be used for just about everything! It is an -bacterial, an -
fungal, and an -viral. It is an sep c to the respira-
tory system. French medicinal uses include asth-
ma, bronchi s (chronic), rheuma sm (chronic),
and whooping cough. As well, it may help colds,
diges on problems, help to balance the metabo-
lism, help with viral and bacterial pneumonia – just
an all around helpful li le oil! The Oregano that I
use is therapeu c grade – and is full strength!
Classified as a “hot” oil, it is one that you do not
use without dilu ng in a carrier oil such as almond,
grape seed or even olive oil! I take oregano in a
gela n capsule when I start to feel a cold or flu
coming on, and it works like a charm! Bonus – you
can also use it in cooking (IF, AND ONLY IF, YOU
ARE USING CERTIFIED THERAPEUTIC GRADE!!!). A
bit on the end of a toothpick will flavour whatever
dish you are making. Obviously, if it is a large
amount a full drop will do – but it’s be er to use a
small amount and work up. You add the oil at the
end of the cooking period, a er you have removed
it from the heat. Cool, hey?

NOURISH - FEED YOUR BODY ~ MIND ~ SOUL 9
Have you ever wondered why you do the things you do, even when you know they are not in your own best interest?
Your conscious, or logical thinking mind, rep-resents a mere 5% of your mental capacity. The sub‐conscious represents the other 95%! In your sub-
conscious mind is stored everything you have ever ex-perienced from the moment of your existence. From this immense data bank, your subconscious decides how best to keep you safe from harm.
Surprisingly, what your subconscious believes to be good for you and what you consciously think would be good for you can be at complete odds.
Just for example: Jill wishes, consciously, to be slim and healthy looking, but no ma er what she does to lose weight no permanent change ever occurs. In fact, her weight problem even gets worse!
What is happening here? One explana on could be that although consciously Jill really, really does not want to be overweight, and even though she tries to eat all the right things and exercise regularly, her sub-conscious mind decided long ago that being overweight keeps her safe from some kind of perceived harm. So Jill stays overweight.
Some mes this subconscious “protect from harm” behavior is so powerful that even if Jill were to succeed in losing weight, she would gain that weight back with more tacked on a erward to safeguard against any weight loss that might occur in the future!
How then can you adjust your subconscious mind to agree with your conscious mind? It is easier than you might expect. Hypnosis is by far the most powerful tool we have for accessing the subconscious mind. Hypnosis has been used for thousands of years. It is safe, empowering, and almost anybody can do it.
By defini on, hypnosis bypasses our conscious, logical thinking mind allowing direct access to the un-
limited subconscious data. Once access is granted, a person can directly replace damaging or nega ve sub-conscious ideas with new posi ve ones. The process is nearly effortless and surprisingly powerful. Major change has been known to happen a er only one or two sessions. Most people can change their lives in wonderful ways a er an average of three to six ses-sions. Research has shown that hypnosis produces sig-nificant results used in concert with and even independ-ent of more tradi onal treatments.
Your subconscious mind is more powerful than any computer, but it can be difficult to access. Your con-scious thoughts are not par cularly good at influencing it. Incredible willpower cannot do more than hold its own for brief periods of me against it. Most of us find that kind of willpower too difficult…and those who do manage it, o en have to admit to defeat eventually.
Hypnosis does not require any willpower. Hyp-nosis only requires a willingness to change.

POWER ANIMALS ByMarleneCobb
I had no idea why I was guided to share Bear this
month for the Power Animal. Bear has not been coming to
me, yet if it was coming for Nourish I would benefit as well.
For most of us fall is the me to start winding down. Ge ng
ready for the winter months when we have more me to be
quiet with less ac vi es happening. For Bear it is a me to
harvest all they can in order to provide a layer of fat that will
nourish and sustain them un l spring. In a sense we as hu-
mans are doing the same thing. We are enjoying the bright
days of fall to the fullest in prepara on for the longer nights
winter brings. We are harves ng our gardens and preparing
the bounty to enjoy in the months to come. All too soon the
days will be shorter, we will not have as boun ful an array of
fresh fruit and vegetables to choose from, and the year will
be ending. If we look at bear as gathering during fall, then
going into hiberna on once the weather gets cooler, we to
can do the same. In the coming months leading up to the
end of the year, we will be busy with a flurry of ac vi es, and
then wham! Along comes January and February. The
months that most of us hibernate, by that I mean we slow
down, we are indoors more.
Bear represents a me of reflec on and s llness—a
me to enter our inner cave and contemplate what is going
on with us right now. Bear might appear when we have lots
of confusion or unrest in our lives. When we are turning to
everyone we know for answers, except ourselves. In those
mes I believe we have the answers within us, we just are
looking for a different op on and have hope that someone
will give us a be er answer.
I believe the message Bear is giving us at this me is
to go deep within and find the dormant part of ourselves and
bring it out. To ask the hard ques ons and awaken our true
power and strength, when we uncover our true power we
are be er able to make solid decisions which nurture us and
allow us to grow. Like the bear if we take the me now to sit
in our caves, we can come out in spring ready to plant the
seeds of our future.
OTHER MESSAGES BEAR OFFERS;
♦ Set clear boundaries and don’t compromise, even if pres-
sured.
♦ Balance ac vi es with periods of rest.
♦ It is me to bring your dreams and plans to frui on.
♦ Enough hiding, it is me to come out and meet the
world.
♦ Don’t wait for something to happen, take ac on now.
Take stock in what is coming up in the next month or
so. Look at the messages of Bear and see how you can incor-
porate them into your life in each moment that comes along.
All of her messages can help see us through not only the
months ahead but also the coming year 2012. The year 2012
is the year the world is “supposed” to end according to many
out there. The Mayan calendar does end in December 2012
and speaks of a new world emerging. I believe Bear has
shown up to help us see our part in the new earth emerging.

Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in and then exhale. Imagine that you can smell the fresh ocean breeze and feel it gently blowing in your hair. See the herons ea ng at the water’s edge; hear the sea gulls calling from above. Now imagine that, with a slow stride along the sand, you experience the water gliding over your
toes. No ce how the waves move to the rate of your breath, easily flowing in and out, effortless. Take a mo-ment and savour this journey you’re on right now, knowing this is a place you can always come back to. Slowly open your eyes, take in the light, textures and colors around you. Breathe.
Making yoga a habit comes one step at a me. The key is to do one thing towards your yoga prac ce daily and soon it becomes a habit you weave naturally into your day. While this sounds simple enough, when we look around and take a mental inventory of the general state of affairs in our lives the thought of adding anything more can be overwhelming. Go into that overwhelmed feeling, breathe into it and then slowly exhale.
We do not need to change our whole life in one grand swoop. Commit to doing one yoga pose for the next week and it can be simply focussing on your breath, the inhale and the exhale. This prac ce works best if you choose something you enjoy rather than forcing your-self through a series of movements you dislike. It can be as simple as going down to the ocean and being pre-sent to the beauty of nature that surrounds you. Whether do yoga poses, meditate or sit on a log - just put life on hold. Be present in that mo-ment. No ce the flow of your breath. See the colors in the sky, no ce the forma on of clouds or lack thereof, hear the sounds, listen for the laughter that carries in the wind, taste the salty air of the ocean, take in the smells and no ce how present you have become. By tapping into all five senses one heightens awareness
and gets in tune with the natural rhythms of the body and the planet.
Wellness is about balance and about bringing that bal-ance into all aspects of our lives; not just our physical body but our mind, emo ons, and spirit. Pay a en on. No ce the ripple effect that one small step can make. By stopping, breathing and becoming present you may find that your next interac on is trans-formed. Maybe even your en re day will be trans-formed! Play with it, experiment - and make yoga a dai-ly habit for yourself.

TASTE SENSATIONS CELEBRATE KALE! By Kaye Castleman
With its beau ful leaves and earthy flavour giving us more nutrients for less calories than almost any other plant, kale certainly earns a spot as one of the world's healthiest foods. Kale, or
Brassica oleracea, is a leafy green vegetable that be-longs to the group of edible plants including cabbage, collards and brussel sprouts. These vegetables have gained recent a en on due to their health-promo ng, sulphur-containing phytonutrients. Kale is easy to grow and can tolerate colder temperatures, where a light frost will produce especially sweet leaves. There are several varie es of kale, including curly kale, ornamen-tal kale and dinosaur kale, which each have their own dis nc ve taste, texture and appearance. Curly kale has ruffled leaves and a fibrous stalk and is usually deep green in colour. It has a pungent flavor with slightly bi er, peppery quali es. Ornamental kale is some mes referred to as salad sa-voy. Its leaves may be either green, white or purple, and the stalks form a loosely knit head. The flavor is more mellow than curly kale and the texture of the leaves is more tender. Dinosaur kale, also known as Lacinato or Tuscan kale, features dark blue-green leaves with an embossed tex-ture. It has a slightly sweeter and more delicate taste than curly kale. HEALTH BENEFITS Though not as well researched as some of its fellow cru-ciferous vegetables like broccoli and cabbage, kale is renowned for its excep onal nutrient profile that is un-matched by most foods. Research has determined that the nutrient richness of kale provides health benefits in
at least three major areas rela ve to cancer preven on. These are its an oxidant nutrients, an -inflammatory nutrients and an -cancer nutrients known as glucosin-olates. Studies have definitely shown cancer preven ve benefits from kale intake, and in some cases, treatment benefits as well. CANCER PREVENTION, PLUS Kale's cancer preventa ve benefits have been linked to its unusual concentra on of two types of an oxidants - carotenoids (including lutein and beta-carotene) and flavenoids (including kaempherol and querci n). In fact, kale contains measurable amounts of no less than 45 key flavenoids in its profile. Oxida ve stress is a major contribu ng factor to the development of cancer cells, and kale has demonstrated the ability to raise the blood levels of many key an -oxidant nutrients. It is an cipat-ed that kale will also be shown to assist in the preven-on of other condi ons linked to oxida ve stress, such
as cataracts, atherosclerosis and chronic obstruc ve pulmonary disease (COPD). In addi on, kale is a top food source for at least four glucosinolates - a class of organic compounds contain-ing sulphur and nitrogen, which aresynthesized from amino acids. Once kale is eaten and digested, these glu-cosinolates can be converted by the body into cancer preven ve compounds. At the top of the cancer-related research for kale are colon cancer and breast cancer, but risk of bladder cancer, prostate cancer and ovarian cancer have all been found to decrease in rela-on to the rou ne intake of kale.
NOURISH - FEED YOUR BODY ~ MIND ~ SOUL 13
ANTI-INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE Kale is a spectacular source of Vitamin K, providing more micrograms of this nutrient per cup than any oth-er known food. In addi on, it takes only one cup of kale to provide 25-35% of the daily omega-3 requirement of alpha-linoleic acid (ALA) as recommended by the Na-onal Academy of Sciences. It is well docmumented
that Vitamin K and ALA are key ingredients in helping the body to regulate inflammatory processes, so it is an cipated that ongoing health research will show kale to be an excep onal food for lowering our risk of chron-ic inflamma on and associated health problems. CARDIO-VASCULAR SUPPORT Kale provides valuable cardio-vascular support by low-ering cholesterol. Our liver uses cholesterol as a basic building block to produce bile acids. When we eat kale, certain nutrients in this vegetable bind with some of the acids in the intes ne in such a way that they remain in the intes ne un l they are ready to pass out as waste, rather than ge ng absorbed into the body. When this happens, the liver needs to replace the lost bile acids by drawing on the exis ng reserves of cholesterol, and, as a result, our cholesterol level drops down. A recent study has shown that the cholesterol-lowering ability of raw kale improves significantly when it is steamed. DETOXIFICATION The nutrients in kale can give our body an edge up in dealing with toxic exposure, whether from our environ-ment or from our food. When we chew raw kale, a spe-cific enzyme hydrolyses the glucosinolates, breaking them down into a class of phytonutrients (ITC's) that have been shown to help regulate detox ac vi es in our cells. In addi on, the unusually large numbers of sul-phur compounds in kale have been shown to help sup-port other aspects of detoxifica on that require the presence of sulphur. DIGESTIVE SUPPORT Studies have yet to be carried out in this area, but it is an cipated that kale's high fiber content of 7 grams per 100 calories will demonstrate measurable benefits to the diges ve system. It is also speculated that the ITC phytonutrients made by kale's glucosinolates help pro-
tect our stomach lining from overgrowth of the Helico-bacter pylori bacterium. PURCHASE AND STORAGE Look for kale with firm, deeply coloured leaves and moist, hardy stems. Ideally, it will be displayed in a cool environment, since warmer temperatures cause it to wilt, and nega vely affect its flavour. The leaves should look fresh, and be free from signs of yellowing, brown-ing or small holes. Look for smaller leaves, since they will be more tender and have a milder flavour than larg-er ones. Kale is usually available throughout the year, but it is more widely available, and at its peak, from fall to mid-winter (even later in more southerly areas). When storing, place kale in a plas c storage bag, re-moving as much air from the bag as possible. Be sure to store it in the fridge, where it will keep for up to 5 days. The longer it is stored, the more bi er its flavour be-comes. Do not wash kale before storing, since exposure to water encourages spoilage. TIPS FOR PREPARING KALE Rinse kale leaves under cold, running water. Chop the leaf por on into 1/2" slices, and the stems into 1/4" lengths for quick and even cooking. To get the most health benefits from kale, let sit for at least 5 minutes before cooking. Sprinkling with lemon juice before le ng them sit can further enhance the beneficial phytonutrient concentra on. For maximum nutri on and flavour, place kale in a steamer with water at a full rolling boil and steam for 5 minutes. Reference: The World's Healthiest Foods; www.whfoods.org

This year during the cold and flu season I wanted to be armed with a hand sani zer. I
don`t like the commercial ones as they are made with alcohol and are drying. Plus
the verdict is s ll out on if they really work or not. I thought why not make one
where I control what goes in it. To start I found some unscented hand cream, then I
researched which essen al oils were an bacterial and based my mix on what I could
easily get in my area. I really loved the scent a er it was mixed together, and the
best part is that you can adjust it to what you like as you go along. No hard fast rules

Each of us handles change differently. Some of us embrace it
and others despise it to the point of never consciously choos-
ing anything out of our comfort level. Change is what keeps
things fresh; it is what promotes growth for each of us.
Change is our forward propeller. If we don’t have change we
have stagna on. Rou ne has become the comfort zone, and
the norm. When things deviate from this, how we handle it
determines how easy our experience will be.
Change has entered my life in the last month. I will admit
that while I was pu ng on a good front and actually for the
most part handling it ok, there was some angst against this
change. We moved, and while that is stressful in itself, it has
happened so many mes in the last 5 years that I am pre y
efficient in that. Organize the boxes, toss out things no long-
er required, pack the boxes, call the movers or arrange for a
moving van, organize the u li es, change address, get a new
phone number, start unpacking boxes, set up a new home.
While I would like to se le into a place and grow some roots
moving to a new home was not the cause of my angst.
What changed this me was my commute to work. I went
from a transit trip that took from 40 - 60 minutes each way
in which I could check emails, text friends, check Facebook,
read a book, and pull a few cards, to over an hour in driving
me which varies depending on the traffic, but 1 hour is the
minimum. Since I consider my commute to be part of my
“work” ra o this meant 11- 11.5 hours commi ed to that!
My life ra o decreased to the remainder which is 12.5 hours.
Looking at the numbers it looks balanced, but I do like to
sleep to recharge my ba ery and be able to con nue on so
let’s take 8 hours off of that (I need my beauty sleep), and I
am le with 4.5 hours to get ready for work before the day
begins, take care of errands and chores a er work, and
spend me with family and friends.
A er a couple weeks of trying to make it work, I gave up! Ok
so it was more like a meltdown. One big angry, depressed,
not having any fun meltdown. It even hinted at looking like a
pity party. It was good on many levels one of them being it
was like the stress valve had been released and I was lighter,
freer, and calmer. Thanks to a song that played on the radio
every day un l I no ced it, I was able to look at it from the
perspec ve of “taking care of business”. This is what I need-
ed to do in order to facilitate being able to sustain myself. I
was taking care of business, maybe not exactly how I would
like to, but in the way that had to be. It is about accep ng
what is now, and why it is important in fulfilling my larger life
goal. Once I looked at it this way, I realized I didn’t have to
enjoy each moment, but I did have to commit to this for the
me being. To actually make changes in how I did things to
accommodate this. Guess what? It is flowing smoother. It
has become easier, not shorter but easier to deal with, the
angst has dissolved. And since I am more accep ng of what
is I have space to actually think about what my op ons are.
We see change all the me. It occurs on a daily basis. Build-
ings change as they are torn down, and new ones start to
replace them. We can watch the change take place. The
seasons change, and while this does not happen from one
day to the next if we pay a en on we can actually see it tak-
ing place. Some changes are wonderful, and bring ease and
freedom into our lives. Other changes need me to adjust.
We can create change or it just happens. No ma er what
change is constant and through it we learn, grow, become
more compassionate, wiser, more accep ng, and more lov-
ing. All of these quali es are incorporated into our lives and
we really do effect change in the world. We can and do make
a difference. So the next me you are thrown a “life change”
ball, take hold of it, feel it with all your being, incorporate
the quali es it brings to you, and then share those quali es
with others. It could be contagious and soon everyone will
want change!

Affirma on: I create necessary change in my life with confidence and enthusiasm!!
Crea ng A Change
Change always carries with it at
least one reward ‐ growth.
Why create change? There are
sayings out there that go some-
thing like this, “if it ain’t broke
don’t fix it”, “why mess with per-
fec on”, “you can’t teach an old
dog new tricks” you know the
sayings and probably a few more besides. In some ways
change is not necessary, however life is about change. It is
the one consistent thing. On many levels we change every
day, week, and year. The idea that everything stays the
same is not true, each year our appearance changes, more
when we are younger, and less as we grow older, we don’t
no ce this change and take it in stride. Usually as humans (it
happens to us all) we get stuck in unproduc ve pa erns. It is
because they are familiar and therefore comfortable. We
get comfortable in our discomfort, meaning if our job is not
exactly our ideal of a great job, we just go with the flow ra-
ther than look elsewhere. It is more comfortable to feel se-
cure in a job (and grumble to anyone who will listen) going
nowhere than to reach out and find something be er.
So how do you know when it is me to create change? One
of my favorite quotes is “The only difference between a rut
and a grave is their dimensions. ~Ellen Glasgow” Find the
rut in your life and you will know that you need to create a
change. A rut is your discomfort you have go en comforta-
ble with. How did we get to this place? What behaviors
brought us here? Are they holding us back from where we
would like to be? Are you afraid of the risks that might be
involved to facilitate this change? Is it easier to se le for the
familiar, rather than venture into the unknown?
Again I go back to, what are your dreams? What do you
want your life to look like? What will it take to get there? In
tarot it is o en called the fools journey, the Fool is the first
card and doesn’t even garner a number he is 0. The fool is
portrayed as a person stepping off a cliff into the great un-
known. If you are uncomfortable with stepping out of your
comfortable discomfort, imagine you are someone else look-
ing at you. What would they see? What advice would you
give? Then be like the fool and gently step off the cliff with
one baby step towards your desired change. That is all it
takes, one step. That one step could be upda ng your re-
sume, ge ng a haircut that is different than the one you had
for 10 years, wearing a bright color instead of black or white,
having dessert before your main course. Each of these will
lead to a feeling of joy and exhilara on. Why? Because it
will be something out of the norm, and once you try one
new thing it gets easier to try the next and before you know
it you are making major progress on filling the rut and being
back on the “journey”.
I came across a clip on a friend’s Facebook page. It is a short
3 minute video from TED.com. Ma Cu s speaks very well
in this video and has some inspiring ideas. The link is below,
please check it out!
I think the idea to incorporate one thing into our lives for 30
days as a way to create a change is brilliant! It can be some-
thing fun. For myself I am going to challenge myself to go for
a walk each day for 30 days. Since I will be star ng this on
October 1, 2011 I will let you know how it went in the next
issue. What would you like to incorporate in your life? Take
the 30 Day Challenge and let me know how it goes.

CONVERSATIONS WITH CHAMUEL byKayeCastleman
Archangel Chamuel is most commonly known as the angel of love and com-passion. (S)He can be helpful in dealing with communication issues, rela-
tionships, ethnic and racial tension, and to assist in situations where we are looking for things we have lost, or cannot find. As a channel for messages
from Chamuel, I have found he has a strong desire to support the opening of our heart chakra, especially at this critical time in our development....
Gree ngs, and welcome to all of the dear souls who are reading these words now. It is I, Archangel Chamuel, sharing what observa ons and insights I believe may be helpful to you in these very exci ng mes. There is so much energy moving so quickly right now that it is diffi-cult to slow things down enough for Kaye to hear my thoughts, and for all of you to grasp their meaning. To facilitate this understanding, I ask that you take a deep and conscious breath before proceeding. Clear your current space of other distrac ons so that the energy of our communica on can reach you, and you will be able, not only to read the words, but also to feel their reso-nance. Since so much of communica on is beyond words, clearing your awareness so that you can be re-cep ve to our connec on will enhance your under-standing of all levels this message. Of course, the re-verse is also true. The more open you are to me, the more specific I can be in addressing your needs, too - all communica on works reciprocally! Yes, Dear Heart, these are exci ng mes. It is said that the Chinese use this as a curse - may you live in exci ng mes - and you are finding out why this is so. The chal-
lenges of living in changing, moving energies are enor-mous. The loss of stability and accepted pa erns is stressful to the human condi on. A few thrive on this kind of chaos, but, for the most part, you are respond-ing with anxiety and imbalances in many areas of your life. The mind is seeking order, and not finding it, the body is seeking rest, which eludes it, and your heart is seeking peace, but experiences only more confusion. It is no surprise that so many of you are struggling under these condi ons. Rela onships are especially challenged these days. When two people are intending to connect with each other, and both of them are moving in different random direc ons, and without being able to an cipate when or how their next shi will take place, keeping a solid con-nec on is very challenging. You are bound to first col-
lide and then slip away from each other at a moment's no ce. This applies to all rela onships, whether they be with an in mate partner, family members, col-leagues, friends, and so forth. Your bodies may appear to be sta onery, but energe cally you are both heaving and swirling in all direc ons. So is the environment around you. It is like trying to find solid ground to stand on while you are bobbing in the ocean during a tropical storm. Rain is pel ng you, the water is tossing you in every direc on, and all your senses are being inundated with informa on so you can hardly see, hear or feel an-ything clearly. In this environment, you are trying to have a calm, meaningful interac on with this person only a few feet from you, who is also going through the same energe c turmoil. Is it any wonder that your hon-est inten ons are being swept away by the howling wind? Can you feel the warmth of your heart shivering in the cold water? Does it make sense, then, that the light of your being is feeling overwhelmed by the black thunder clouds above you? Dearest angels of earth, we watch from the angelic realms, and we see the adversity that surrounds you. We are aware of the invisible barriers that stand in your way, and the forces that are currently undermining your best inten ons. We implore you..... take heart, the storm will not last. It is me for certain energies on the planet to cleanse themselves. Rain and wind are the purest of cleansing agents, and they are fulfilling their purpose. It is all beau ful and perfect, and it is possible to reap great rewards from the chaos that is now sweeping through your lives. This is not the great flood, come to end your existence. It is not an insurmountable tragedy. It is most definitely not the fault of the "other person". It is a me of great change and upheaval, and your greatest comfort and support lies in your connec-on with each other. You are all in this sea together,
squin ng from the water in your eyes and the lighten-ing in the sky, cringing from the crashing of the waves and the thunder overhead.
NOURISH - FEED YOUR BODY ~ MIND ~ SOUL 19
Does it make any sense to blame this on the person next to you, foundering just as you are? Can you under-stand how misdirected this thought is? Of course, none of you is literally drowning at sea. Well, most of you aren't, anyway! But in many ways you are struggling with the forces that are in flux at this me, and if you can entertain the thought that much of the stress between you is caused by these forces, you will be able to reduce a great deal of the discord and blame you are currently experiencing. These are not easy things to accomplish, but if you are able to implement them, you will find they are powerful tools for ground-ing your energy and using your resources for more re-warding endeavours. The first is to let go of your focus on the surrounding storm. Let go of your a achment to the drama of the circumstances. This is perhaps one of the most difficult prac ces for humans to master, but this message has been brought to you over and over again in your history. And at this me in your develop-ment, it is a cri cal skill to have. If you wish to weather this storm, bring your awareness inwards. No ce how you are being. Is your heart pounding in your chest? Is your head throbbing? Are you feeling cold or hot? Sad or angry? Hurt or vengeful? How do you feel about yourself in this moment? Do you like who you are be-ing? Will you look back on this version of yourself in a year or a decade from now, and be pleased with who you see? Without looking for cause or jus fica on, just observe how you are choosing to react to this moment. Simply shi ing your focus will have an enormous effect on whatever is happening. In the middle of a heated exchange with your partner, gossiping with a friend about your neighbour, or dealing with customers, cli-ents or colleagues during your day, take a moment to see who you are being in this moment. The more you prac ce this basic exercise, you will find yourself being different the next me. Ignore the circumstances and the other person, for these will only distract you. Simp-ly become the detached observer of your self. If you are unable to do this in the moment, then take the me to look at yourself in hindsight. As you do this, resolve to find the inspira on next me, to do it as it is happen-ing. Set the inten on to be able to do it, and you will. Eventually you will be able to catch yourself in the act of being. This alone is a prac ce of immeasurable value. Whether you use it in your interac ons with others, or simply to observe your own beingness, it will assist you greatly in these chao c mes.
Our second sugges on to you, and this one is par cular-ly close to my vibra on, is to recognize the divine in the other person. This is virtually impossible if you have not yet acknowledged the divine in yourself, but it is the way to heal any rela onship. It does not require for-giveness or apology. It is simply a recogni on of the perfec on of their experience, which may be very different from yours. You may not understand it. You may not approve. In some cases, you may even need to protect yourself from their decisions and approach to life in order to honour your own. But none of this inter-feres with your ability to open your heart and allow their expression of the divine. Many of you are in your own private hurricane within the global storm, and this makes for very stressful dynamics. If you could see yourselves as we see you, you would have much more compassion for each other. Although this would not eliminate all disagreements or contras ng energies, it would greatly reduce the gratuitous drama that so o en depletes your energies. Again, this is not a simple thing to do. If it were, everyone would be doing it! But it is a valuable tool to help you offset the fric on that many rela onships are experiencing in these difficult mes. Remember, you are all bobbing in the same sea, all cold and wet and red, all hoping for warmth and shelter. Each is trying to find it in their own way. See yourself and all others in your world as a fragile flame, cas ng your own par cular ray of divine light. These are two of the greatest reminders we can offer you in your rela onships with one another. When you forget them, as you will, do not see this as a judgement on you, but simply a missed opportunity. Another will be along shortly! And we are always here in service to you, whenever you ask us. We do not interfere in your life or your choices, but when you call on us, it is our greatest honour to serve you. These are, indeed, ex-ci ng mes, but as with all storms, it will pass, and there are magnificent possibili es ahead. Reach out to one another, and to us, for we are all connected, forev-er and always.

EMPATHIC EMOTION BUSTER byVeraEnshaw
THIS TOOL WAS A LIFE‐SAVER FOR ME – and could be
for you, too!
Empathy is the ability to feel what is happening physi-
cally, emo onally, mentally & spiritually to the people
around us. We are all empathic. That’s it, period. And it
can create havoc in our lives! We may be si ng at
home, feeling really good and then, suddenly we are
feeling angry, or sad, or cranky. (Nobody ever complains
about feeling cranky & then feeling happy. I don’t know
why that is!) If we have a lover or a spouse who has just
come home, we may feel as though we are losing our
connec on, that we don’t love them any more. Or we
may begin to feel as though we are losing our mind.
That’s what I thought was happening to me! And then a
wonderful teacher explained it to me – you’re empath-
ic, she said. Well, OK – what did that mean, exactly? It
meant that I was picking up on, and holding onto, the
emo ons of the people around me. One of the people I
lived with always seemed to be cheerful & happy, but
was in reality very unhappy & angry most of the me.
Not that I was aware of that at the me! The next me
that you are angry, cranky, unhappy or are experiencing
any of the so-called “nega ve” emo ons, and you’re
wondering whether it’s you or not, do this:
Open your crown chakra (at the top of the
head). You do this by intent – you just think “I open my
crown chakra” and it will open.
Now, invite the energy of the Universe to flow in
through the crown chakra, down your head, past your
throat chakra, past your heart chakra, and out through
your solar plexus chakra (right at the “V” in your ribs).
Keep the flow happening. It may feel awkward at first,
but the more you prac ce this, the easier it happens.
Within 3 to 5 minutes, the emo ons that are NOT yours
will be gone! You will s ll have awareness of them, but
you will not be feeling them yourself. It gets much fast-
er the more o en you do it – I know in less than 20 se-
conds most of the me! Now, here’s the interes ng
thing. If the emo on is actually yours, you can push the
energy through ll the cows come home, and it won’t
go anywhere! You can use this powerful li le tool at
home, at work, at the grocery store, in the mall – any-
me & anyplace that you suddenly feel an emo on that
you’re not sure is yours. Parents – use this tool when
your children are unhappy. It will give you extra pa-
ence when dealing with them, because you won’t be
carrying their unhappiness!
For those people who are healers – this tool
does not eliminate awareness of the problem, it only
keeps it out of your personal bodies.

WHAT IS REIKI? To me Reiki is magic, since be-ing attuned to Reiki I feel like I have magic hands. Reiki is a Japanese word pro-
nounced ray-key. When translated it means universal life force, or universally guided energy. Reiki is a simple system of healing, carried out by the placing of hands on or above a person (who is always fully clothed), plant, or animal. Dr. Mi-kao Usui rediscovered Reiki in the 19th century while re-searching ancient Buddhist documents on the powers of heal-ing. Dr. Usui started sharing these secrets with others, there-by starting a wave of Reiki being passed on from Master to student. During the 1960's and 1970's Reiki made it's way to the West. Today there are many people who practice Reiki. Reiki is love energy and heals on all levels, physically, emo-tionally, mentally, and spiritually. It supports the body's natu-ral ability to heal itself, because it is universal energy it is practised by people of many different religions and cultures. It knows no barriers. WHAT ARE SOME REASONS TO RECEIVE REIKI? 1) You are in physical pain or discomfort. 2) You feel under pressure and are looking for a soothing re-laxation method. 3) You might want to complement other healing practices you are using. 4) Maybe you are just curious to know more about this all-round healing phenomenon. Any of the above reasons could spur you to seek out a Reiki practitioner. FINDING A REIKI PRACTITIONER. There are many Reiki practitioners in our area. All of them are equally gifted, wonderful people who love to share the healing powers of Reiki. Finding a Reiki practitioner is much like finding a doctor, dentist, plumber, or banker. You should find one that fits you and that you are comfortable with. I al-ways suggest a person should phone and ask questions, bet-ter yet meet with the Reiki practitioner first and see if you click. While all Reiki practitioners have training each con-ducts their business differently. Some have healing rooms set up in their homes, others travel to you. Some work strictly with animals. How long does a Reiki session last? What times are convenient for you? Each Reiki practitioner usually has times they are available. How much do they charge? Rates can vary, what works with your budget? Some are will-ing to trade for special skills and services, and still others are willing to make concessions and prorate their fees. In the end you should choose the person who you feel the most comfort-
able with, this will ensure the most beneficial treatment for you. THE REIKI EXPERIENCE Okay the day of your appointment arrives, now what? Most Reiki practitioners start the session by having you fill out a questionnaire and talking with you about your general health and lifestyle. The session then moves to the actual treatment. You will be asked to remove your shoes, and usually any jew-ellery you are wearing. Next you will lie down on a massage table and made comfortable. The Reiki practitioner than be-gins. The energy is a never ending supply and the person giving the Reiki never becomes drained. This is your time and the Reiki practitioner usually stays quiet allowing you to just enjoy the experience. Sometimes the Reiki will make you want to laugh, cry, giggle, sleep, ask questions, or express yourself. You might feel tingly, see beautiful colors, or be-come totally relaxed, there is no right or wrong reaction to Reiki. Reiki simply facilitates holistic healing and promotes wellbeing.

4 CARD DRAW
This is a quick daily spread you can use to check in and see how things are going. It o en gives a heads up on what is
coming to you during the day. Using the ques on above and your favorite deck of tarot or oracle cards draw 4 cards
in the fashion you normally pull cards.
Card 1—General theme of the day, situa on, or rela onship
Card 2—The possible block
Card 3— Guidance to heal the block
Card 4— The probable outcome
What do I need to know?
Here is a sample from my daily draws;
Vanessa - This card is about being indecisive. It tells me that one day I know what to do and the next I am ques oning which
way to go. So the general theme is about making a decision. Looking at what will serve me and others the most.
Arielle - This card is about awakening to new spiritual aspects of me. This is about being intui ve and sharing this aspect of my-
self with the world. As it is in the block posi on it tells me it is part of my indecisiveness.
Celeste - This card is about a happy move to a new home or place of employment. Something is in the works, and to be pa ent
a li le longer as something is coming that will usher in posi ve new energy.
Grace & Antoine e - This card speaks of seeing everything with compassion. It is about releasing the judgments of good or bad
and having compassion for everyone. Know they are doing their best and that includes me! Consider all angles and opinions
for you might not be right or might not see the whole picture.
Generally I take this reading as soon I will know the answers and that if I can just step back for a moment and not worry about
knowing what to do it will all fall into place. This does not mean that I can sit back and wait for it to happen but that I need to
con nue to look at the situa on with compassion and honesty in order to figure out where I am going.

“Follow your heart this month dear ones and see where it takes you. Most of you have become so detached from your true feel-ings that you no longer know what brings you joy. You are going through the mo ons and have become like robots. Become like a child and do only that which brings you joy. Carve out some me each day between your responsibili es to immerse yourself in something you like to do. Be that going for a walk, reading a book, listening to music, pain ng, or any other ac vity that you can fully immerse yourself in. Give yourself this treat and you will be be er equipped to give to others. Set boundaries, do you say yes when doing so will only add to your daily pressures? Start looking at how many mes you say yes when you would rather say no. Then prac ce saying the word. It does not have to be giv-en forcefully, just a heart felt no, people are happier to have you say no, than to say yes and not mean it. Love yourself enough to say no to others’ demands on your me and energy. Be honest with yourself. What is your hearts’ true desire? Instead of look-ing to what others want, look within yourself and see what you want. Start implemen ng steps to bring your dreams into your present. Earth Crystals Black Tourmaline
Carnelian
Citrine
Photo : Phil Nielsen
Black Tourmaline (Schrol) the
keyword for this crystal is Align-
ment. Tourmaline is an unusual
stone in that when it is heated one
end becomes charged electronical-
ly posi ve and the other end has a
nega ve charge. Rubbing this stone will generate enough
heat to charge it with magne c energy. This makes it useful
as a switching device in many types of machinery. Tourma-
line does not absorb nega ve energy. It repels it. It is the
best crystal to use against the ill effects of low frequency and
high frequency electromagne c waves (EMF) associated with
cell phones and computers.
Carrying around Black Tourmaline can s mulate prac cality
with crea vity in order to help you achieve your desired
goals. Black tourmaline is deeply grounding and can be used
whenever energy feels sca ered and disconnected. Black
tourmaline is a wonderful stone for coping with grief as it is a
valuable stone for crisis and for periods of extreme stress
and mes of intense difficulty. Other areas it helps with are,
strengthens the immune system, treats dyslexia, joint pain
and arthri s, provides pain relief and helps align the spinal
column. It is associated with the Root chakra which is the
base chakra which keeps us grounded in the now. Hence
black tourmaline with its grounding abili es is an important
crystal to have in our collec on.
Carnelian comes in a variety of
colors ranging from red to orange
and, in some cases, even dark
brown. It is a form of Chalcedony
(Jasper) quartz, and if you are like
me depending on the color, I won-
der if it is agate instead of Carnelian. Carnelian is one of the
oldest stones used in jewelry da ng back to 3000 BCE and
has been found in Egyp an tombs. The ancient Egyp ans
used Carnelian to carve official and personal seals. Magical
amulets were also carved out of Carnelian by the Egyp ans,
Romans and Greeks.
While Carnelian is associated with the second chakra it is a
very well rounded stone. Carnelian is one of the most help-
ful crystals for healing trauma, stress and emo onal wounds
that have accumulated in the Aura and are now manifes ng
as physical symptoms. Historically it was used to help draw
out fever by placing the stones on or near the bo oms of the
feet of feverish people. This stone helps you feel anchored
and comfortable with your surroundings, and is a good
grounding crystal for medita on. Other areas it helps with
are to improve mo va on, confidence, outgoingness, asser-
veness, and can help one achieve greater success both per-
sonally and career wise. As it is associated with the sacral
chakra it also has a strong influence on the reproduc ve or-
gans and could very well help in the areas of passion and sex-
uality. Lower back pain is also helped with Carnelian. Over-
all it is a gentle stone that can restore the correct energy
flow to the body.
To clean Carnelian place under running luke warm water
once a month.

Citrine occurs naturally where quartz recrystallizes with iron inclusions. Citrine’s color is usually a pale
lemon color, but can be found in varying shades up to
deep brown orange. It is believed that much of the
citrine on the market today is "created" by adding
heat to a poor quality of amethyst, turning it orange.
When citrine forms naturally with amethyst, it is
called Ametrine. Citrine was used in Rome as en-
graved figurines given as gi s. It has been given other names in other cultures
including the merchant stone or the golden stone of wealth. During the Middle
Ages, citrine was considered to carry the energy of the sun’s rays. People used
this stone as a remedy for depression during the long winter months or during
overcast weather.
Citrine crystals are invigora ng, posi ve, and very versa le. They are used for
mental and emo onal clarity, problem solving, memory issues, will power, op -
mism, confidence and self-discipline. It reduces anxiety, fear and depression. Cit-
rine absorbs, transmutes, grounds and dissolves nega ve energy, which makes it
a very protec ve stone. Other areas it helps with are, increased mo va on, har-
ness and u lize crea ve energy, analyze events and steer them in a posi ve di-
rec on, develop inner calm and security, be less sensi ve and more open to con-
struc ve cri cism. Can dispel nega ve feelings and help us to accept the flow of
events. This stone is great with help in achieving goals. Citrine is associated with
both the Sacral and Solar Plexus Chakras depending on the color. Orange citrine
encourages crea ve flow and sexual arousal, where yellow citrine has a soothing
effect on the diges ve system and helps to alleviate anxiety/fears. Citrine with its
brilliant color energizes every level of the aura, cleansing and balancing the sub-
tle bodies as it aligns it with the physical body.
Citrine can be charged overnight in a bowl of quartz or hema te. To clean Citrine
place under running warm water.

Aries Horoscope (March 21‐April 20): Since last summer, there has been a need to restructure your foundation and base of operations. This is mainly in your home but it's also your sense of self-identity.
Family, parents, children, and all things concerning nurtur-ance are important for you to consider. Are you, do you, can you nurture? Are you, do you, can you receive this in return?
Taurus Horoscope (April 21‐May 21): Your mind is very active. It is therefore very important to choose one or more physical tasks and see them to completion. Careful of illusionary thinking. Maintain practical tasks for your mind may jump from one issue to another with great rapidity. The outcome could a feel-
ing of inadequacy. This is an illusion.

first.
