Chapter #339
December 2017
ENHANCING THE SUCCESS OF WOMEN IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
A Message from the President: Laurie Parker
Welcome Fall! I got a great start by attending the South
Central Region AFC (Annual Fall Conference) in Memphis,
TN., October 20th and 21st. Also representing our chapter
was Treasurer Christine Barnhill, and Immediate Past-
President (and current Secretary) Miki Haas.
I was honored to have been asked by our Region Director,
Laurie Jimenez, to serve as Conference Secretary. I was also

(Professional Development & Education) and put together
an impressive presentation during the workshop breakout
sessions! I lended a hand to Regional WIC Week Chair Dana
Lumpkin of the Greater Little Rock Chapter serving as her
co-chair and presenting a session during AFC. Director
Jimenez asked for volunteers for a couple of vacant regional
chair positions, and it was no surprise that our very own
Miki Haas stepped up to accept the position of Regional
Membership Chair.
Thank You, Jackie Beau for putting together our Block Kids
Competition. We had a very excited winner and look
forward to seeing him again next year! The following week
as he was leaving school, someone asked him what he was
planning to do with his winnings. He responded by asking
what a swing set cost. Assuming he meant for himself, his
grandmother asked him what kind he was thinking about.
His answer made me tear up as he very unselfishly says . . .

Christmas is the Season for Giving
A very good friend of mine lost her sister on October
27th very suddenly and unexpectedly. At the age of
55 she passed away from natural causes which are
still being determined. She and her ex-husband
were sharing custody and care for six grandchildren.
The grandfather is now having to raise four children
on a disability income. While two children are
currently in foster care, the grandfather is still trying
to include them in their family Christmas
celebration. Any donations we can contribute
would be greatly appreciated by the family. The
children range in ages 5 – 14; I do have sizes
available if you want more information.
Donations of Gift Cards will be accepted at
our Christmas Celebration on December 16th
to distribute to the family. Thanks for your
generosity!
