NordPlus Junior project 2013-2015: “Beauties of the Baltic Sea”.

The second study visit in Estonia 19-21 May 2014.

The Baltic Sea is a brackish sea with

both salt and fresh water. It doesn`t

have big tides, and the sea water is low in salinity.

Estonia is located on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea with nearly 3,800 km of coastline and nearly

700 km of land border.

Estonian flag has blue colour on it.

One of the reasons why this colour was chosen is the following:

blue sky above the native land or the reflection of the Baltic Sea.

Estonia,Finland, Latvia,

Lithuania, Poland, Russia,

Germany, Denmark

and Sweden divide the Baltic Sea

More than 85 million people live close to the Baltic Sea and this area is of great

importance, not only in terms of environment and economy, but also in

terms of energy and transport.

Estonian Fishermen catch Baltic herrings, sprats, hake, flukes, salmons and seals. Fish farms produce eels, trout,

carps and crayfishes.

The Baltic Sea in Estonia is changeable – in summer, the

water temperature can exceed 20 degrees.

The frozen Baltic Sea creates the longest ice road in Europe, (26 km), connecting Estonian mainland and second-largest

island Hiiumaa.

Old City Marina is in the very heart of Tallinn.

Paldiski Harbour is the second cargo port located

45 km west of Tallinn.

Muuga Harbour is the biggest cargo harbour in Estonia

located 17 km east of Tallinn.

Saaremaa is the largest island in Estonia,

2, 673 km².

Hiiumaa is the second island (989 km²) of Estonia. It is located in the Baltic

Sea, north of the island of Saaremaa.

Muhu is the third island in the Baltic Sea, 198 km² belonging to Estonia,

after Saaremaa and Hiiumaa.

A large part of Estonia’s natural landscapes

AND WE LOVE IT.
