Maths and Melbourne Cup Day Hats Students added to the skills they are learning at Niangala Public School. They combined Maths and hat making for a bit of Melbourne Cup Day fun. I am sure that the hats would do a great job of providing shade but probably would not do much to protect the wearer form the rain.
Visitor to School Students and staff were very excited to meet Ma lda Moore today on her first visit to Niangala Public School.
Mathema cs In Mathema cs last week, Chaise, Charlo e, Isabell and Sophie explored the proper es of 3D objects. They enjoyed construc ng them out of natural materials and inves gated what nets form a 3D object. We put together a mobile out of cones, prisms, pyramids and cylinders. Sophie and Chaise made a quiz about the features of 3D objects.
Do you know which object has 6 faces and all these faces are squares? Which object has just one curved face? Which object can roll and stack?
We really enjoyed the ac vity at this website
h p://educa on.abc.net.au/res/i/L1061/index.html
where we can transform 2D shapes into 3D objects. Try it at home!
English Mrs Crawford and the children enjoyed learning about the life cycle of a kangaroo. We followed this up with a joint research project on the life cycle of a sea turtle. We used a combina on of factual texts from the library and digital resources on the computer and internet to construct our project. What fascina ng rep les they are! We all agree that such amazing animals need humans to protect their fragile marine environment.
Transi on Thursday 31st October was the final transi on day for our enthusias c Niangala Nippers. What a fantas c beginning to school life they have had this year! On their final day they explored the theme of the beach. The girls talked about what we would take on a trip to the beach and what fun things they can do at the beach. Elaya, Fern and Valerie all agreed that you do not need a beanie at the beach!
In maths, we inves gated length and 3D objects. The girls carefully cut out some crocodiles and ordered them from the biggest, oldest crocodile to the smallest baby crocodile. They enjoyed inves ga ng 3D objects such as cubes and cones and constructed some towers using these objects.
At the assembly, the Nippers were presented with a cer ficate of comple on of the Transi on to Kindergarten program. Congratula ons Elaya, Fern and Valerie and a special thanks to Mrs Crawford for organising a fantas c program for these three li le Nippers.

Congratula ons Charlo e and Sophie on comple ng 100 nights of reading.
