Very relevant to mobile backhaul connectivity!
Let’s explore On Demand Ethernet more deeply…

On-Demand customer benefits at-a-glance
Fast Delivery
Flexible Bandwidth
Typical telco lead times vary from 2 to 6 weeks for on-net buildings.
On Demand services mean that the traditional telco delivery
process is bypassed and connections are delivered in minutes!
Once a service has been delivered, the service bandwidth can be
flexed up and down in near real-time
Improved user
interface
On-Demand services are ordered via a customer portal – the
traditional order forms are no longer required.
Simplified servicesServices are based on ports and connections, customers can
request new services in just a few clicks of the mouse

Step 1 - Login to portal
Interaction with Colt On Demand services is via an online portal, which allows
customers to interact with their services in real time
The next step is to reserve customer ports (typically 1Gbps) at the service
termination points. DCNet and Ethernet On Demand services are based on
standard ports. For Dedicated Cloud Access services, a Microsoft cloud port
needs to be requested
Connections (circuits) can then be requested between two ports. It takes just
a few minutes for an On Demand connection will now be created between the
two ports – it’s as simple as that!
Once the connection is live, customers can increase and decrease the
bandwidth in real time. Customers are only billed for the bandwidth they use.

How will On Demand Ethernet impact Cloud RAN and 5G markets?
15
Many connectivity markets are focussing on 3rd party data centres
data centre as the central focus for their network architecture
(cloud, fixed line telecoms, media). Will mobile backhaul market
follow this trend?
Where is the sweet spot? On Demand Ethernet will provide
most benefits to the “middle” of the Cloud RAN network and
where MNOs want to lease/outsource fixed line capacity
The mobile backhaul market is expected to go through a
fundamental change over the next 5-10 years and new transport
network technologies will almost certainly have a part to play
Likely that mobile backhaul specific features will be developed –
no reason why synchronous Ethernet can’t be enabled via this
new model
