17 May 2016 Dear Parents Today we ran a fire drill and a trial text message was sent to check the mobile phone numbers we have in our system. In the event of a real emergency evacuation we will be doing this to contact our families and inform them of what is happening. If you did not receive a message in your family about today’s trial evacuation please contact Coralie to check the mobile numbers we have in our system. The trial evacuation went well and everyone did as
they should. Yesterday we celebrated Catholic Schools Day with a liturgy in the morning, followed by the children getting together in their buddy classes and creating a fantastic display about the Fruits of the Holy Spirit that will be put up in the foyer in the coming days. This was a wonderful opportunity for us to focus on how lucky we are to be a part of a Catholic school. Congratulations to the students who took part in the Year 7/8 football tournament last week. Although the competition was tough going the students represented themselves and our school with pride. Thank you to Mr McGurk, Nina Papadopoulos and the parents who helped out with this day. It was fantastic to have Catherine Ryan, Principal of St Mary’s College visit our school last week with two of our former students Catherine Ramoo and Claire Chan. Mrs Ryan, Catherine and Claire spoke about St Mary’s College and all it has to offer. It was great to hear Mrs Ryan talk about how well St Benedict’s students are doing at St Mary’s College and to find out that Catherine Ramoo won the Year 9 speech competition recently. This is a fantastic achievement as 140 girls took part in the Year 9 speech competition. There is an open day coming up at St Mary’s College on Wednesday 25
th
May for everyone interested.
Please keep the children who are beginning their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation this Sunday in your prayers. It is great to see such a big group taking part in this Sacrament again this year.

Invitations are being sent out to parents of children who have started school to date this year or who will start this term, but this meeting is open to everyone to attend. Today we held our school cross country for students in Year 4-8. We were blessed with a sunny but cool day for this event. Congratulations to all of the students who took part in this event and put 100% into their race.

WEEKLY REFLECTION - Pope Francis - Amoris Laetitia encyclical
“The life of every family is marked by all kinds of crises, yet these are also part of its dramatic beauty. Couples should be helped to realize that surmounting a crisis need not weaken their relationship; instead, it can improve, settle and mature the wine of their union.” [232] Pope Francis
