DEVOTION DEVOTION DEVOTION DEVOTION ---- SEEING GODSEEING GODSEEING GODSEEING GOD
The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does
not leave the guilty unpunished. Numbers 14:18
Caricature ar(sts set up their easels in public places and draw pictures of people who are
willing to pay a modest price for a humorous image of themselves. Their drawings amuse
us because they exaggerate one or more of our physical features in a way that is
recognisable but funny.
Caricatures of God, on the other hand, are not funny. Exaggera(ng one of His aFributes
presents a distorted view that people easily dismiss. Like a caricature, a distorted view of
God is not taken seriously. Those who see God portrayed only as an angry and
demanding judge are easily lured away by someone who emphasizes mercy. Those who
see God as a kind-hearted grandfather will reject that image when they need jus(ce.
Those who see God as an intellectual idea rather than a living, loving being eventually
find other ideas more appealing. Those who see God as a best friend oIen leave Him
behind when they find human friends who are more to their liking.
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I worship You. You are holy, just, kind, and loving. You are
God alone.
God declares Himself to be merciful and gracious, but also just in punishing the guilty
(Ex. 34:6–7).
As we put our faith into ac(on, we need to avoid portraying God as having only our
favourite aFributes. We must worship all of God, not just what we like.
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I worship You. You are holy, just, kind, and loving. You are
God alone.

Reading At Home Reading At Home Reading At Home Reading At Home Reading in our modern world is more important than ever. When your children see you
reading and wri(ng in everyday life – reading for pleasure, sharing a story with them,
using a recipe, making a shopping list, wri(ng a birthday card, reading street signs, or
reading and wri(ng emails – it teaches them that reading and wri(ng are useful skills.
Reading with your child at home will help them in all learning areas at school.

• Be confident that your child will learn to read. Give posi(ve messages and
involve them in everyday conversa(ons and opportuni(es to read.
• Read aloud to your child. It helps them to learn about the language of books and
will encourage them to enjoy books and reading.
• Read to your child in your home language if your first language is not English.
• Make reading enjoyable and talk about books, magazines and computer stories
that you have read together.
Try not to let television intrude on reading (me. Make a special (me for reading
with your child, away from interrup(ons.
• Listen to your child read as oIen as you can, every day if possible, even if only
for a short (me.
• When reading together at home, try to make the (me relaxed, enjoyable and
posi(ve. Vary it. Read together, read to your child and take turns or have them
read to you.
• Before reading, talk about the cover, the (tle and the pictures, and discuss what
the book may be about.
• During reading, discuss what has been read up to that point and predict what
might happen next.
• AIer you've finished reading with your child, talk and ask ques(ons about the
story and the pictures.
• Don't forget RIBIT (Reading In Bed Is Terrific!)

When your child is reading and encounters words that are difficult for them, use the
Three Ps technique ‘Pause, Prompt, Praise' to support them.
• Pause: Pause: Pause: Pause: when your child comes to a word they don't know, try not to jump in
straight away. Wait and give your child (me to work out the word.
• Prompt: Prompt: Prompt: Prompt: if your child successfully works out the problem word, suggest they go
back to the beginning of the sentence and re-read it (to recap meaning) before
reading on.
If your child has not worked out the problem word, prompt them with some quick,
low-key sugges(ons. Say things like:
"Try reading on for a sentence or two, miss out the difficult word and see if that helps
you to work it out."
"Look at the sound the word begins with, use that clue, and think about what may
make sense here? Look at the pictures."
If prompts like these are not working, simply tell your child the correct word.
Try not to spend too much (me promp(ng, as your child will find it difficult to maintain
the overall meaning of what they are reading.
• Praise: Praise: Praise: Praise: praise your child's reading efforts and successes.

MENINGOCOCCAL IMMUNISATIONSMENINGOCOCCAL IMMUNISATIONSMENINGOCOCCAL IMMUNISATIONSMENINGOCOCCAL IMMUNISATIONS Students in Years 10, 11 & 12 will soon receive their Meningococcal Immunisa(on.
Barwon Health have had a large amount of queries from parents enquiring whether their child has already has this vaccine.
Most students would have had a Meningococcal Vaccine when they were younger. This was for the Meningococcal C Strain.
The vaccine on offer now covers the A,C,W,Y strains which have not been offered before (this will give them a booster of the earlier
vaccine if they received it).
We would encourage all parents to take this opportunity (only available un(l Dec 31st 2017) to protect their children against this
serious disease.
Dates are s(ll to be confirmed, but will be communicated prior to the immunisa(on.
